BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.3 FIRE AND GEMSTONE
The Chris Hensler-trained FIRE AND GEMSTONE is back on track this preparation and looks set for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Rubick gelding was third-up when he stepped-up from Class 1 company and clobbered a Class 2 field at Moruya over 1425m. Apprentice, Jade McKenzie had him leading from the outset and never threatened, he raced away to win by 2.5 lengths on the line. He drops sharply in grade today and accordingly has more weight to carry but after the claim, still comes in nicely with 56.5kgs on his back. He can lead here from gate six and will take catching today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.4 ASTUNNER
The Gratz Vella-trained ASTUNNER is firing on all cylinders of late and looks well placed here to win his first crack at the mile today. Last start, the Xtravagant gelding was ridden a treat by Damon Budler when he showed plenty of grit taking out a BM58, here over 1460m. Lumping 60kgs that day, Budler had him box-seating to the turn, then crossed heels and took over inside the final 200m where under hands and heels, he proved too strong in the run home. Up in grade today but down in weight, Budler sticks with him and a repeat of his last-start effort should see him hard to beat here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.2 SOUL LADY
Resuming today, local galloper SOUL LADY ticks all the boxes here to suggest she will take a ton of beating on her home track. Last start, the Supido filly made the journey north of the border where she took on her own age group in a Three-Year-Old Open Hcp at Eagle Farm. The city class gallopers proved a little too slick for her that day as she finished mid-field, beaten 4.5 lengths on the line. She has trialled recently in preparation for her return to the track. Boasting an excellent fresh record, her three previous first-up appearances all ended in top-two finishes and she has a track and distance victory against her name as well. Olivia Chambers is the new pilot and from gate three, maps to have the filly box-seating on settling. Back to country racing today and already a winner at BM58 level, she looks the one to beat here.
