BEST BET 🏆

Race 2:  No.5  M UNICORN

The Caspar Fownes-trained M UNICORN is in great touch of late and looks more than an even chance of victory in this contest. Last start, the Savabeel gelding recorded win number five when he saluted (at $19) in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1650m. He drew the outside gate that day (13) and settled last, spotting the leaders a dozen lengths. Turning for home, he could still see all of them but with the light weight (53.5kgs) he stormed home to pass them all and arrive in time to collect the trophy. He meets similar company over the same trip today and while up in weight, he draws much better here in gate six and maps to settle a lot closer. Given a clear run to the line, he can ring up back-to-back wins on the all-weather track today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 10:  No.5  GUSTOSISIMO

NZ trainer, Jamie Richards has GUSTOSISIMO lining-up here for his second start on Hong Kong soil and giving a good account of himself last start, looks set to improve and give a bold showing in this contest. The well-bred Exceed And Excel gelding left the shores of Australia with a hat-trick of wins and five months later, made his Sha Tin debut where he held his own finishing mid-field, beaten just over three lengths on the line with Vince Ho on board. Settling second-last, he spotted them ten lengths and in the run home, was making ground as he past half the field in the run to the line. Ho remains in the saddle today as he draws much better in gate four and with a clear run to the line, he can give this a real shake today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.4  HELENE FEELING

Danny Shum saddles-up HELENE FEELING here who drops in grade today and looking to bounce back with a win. Last start, the Sioux Nation gelding found the Hong Kong Derby field just a little too strong over the 2000m trip, finishing unplaced in the black-type event. The four-year-old should find this a lot easier today where he is a two-time winner in this company and has scored over the track and distance previously. Zac Purton takes over as the pilot and has established a solid record with the galloper, scoring twice and landing four minor prize finishes from his seven rides to date. Ideally drawn in gate two today, we should see plenty of improvement from him in this contest.
