The Stephen Jones-trained CHIKY CHIKY MAMA has a resume very similar to Tom Melbourne but with a gear change here, she looks a solid chance of bringing up career-win number two today. Last start, the Nicconi mare finished third for the seventh time in a BM58 Hcp over 1000m at Tamworth. Beaten just half a length on the line, it was her sixth-straight minor placing after winning when first-up this time in. The stable tries something different today as they fit the blinkers for the first time. Drawn well in gate six, she maps to settle near the speed today and with Kody Nestor aboard for the first time, she should have every chance to break her current run of bad luck.

Race 6:  No.8  ACOTANGO  ($3.60 with bet365)

Cody Morgan saddles-up ACOTANGO here and dropping in grade today, looks a serious player in this field. Last start, the Spieth gelding settled near last and never found clean air in the run home when finishing seventh (beaten four lengths) in a Class 2 Highway Hcp over 1100m at Hawkesbury. He draws to do no early work here from gate two and after the claim, carries less weight here. Making his Quirindi debut, he should find this a little easier and looks right in the mix today.

Race 3:  No.4  CHEEKY NUGGET  ($7.60 with BoomBet)

Dubbo galloper CHEEKY NUGGET sees the Quirindi track for the first time today and brings with him form that’s good enough to suggest he can win this contest. Last start, the Dawn Approach gelding ploughed through the heavy going to take out a BM58 Hcp over the mile at Wellington. With regular rider Julia Presits on board, he settled back in the field and came wide on the turn where he finished best to get there in the last stride to claim victory. He carries 2kgs more today after that win as he faces similar company over the same trip. Presits has her 29th ride on the five-year-old today, having already steered him to 11 of his 17 podium finishes to date. In career-best form this time in, he can go back-to-back here.
