BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.8  PRINCIPESSA  ($4.20 with Bet Right)

The Joe Pride-trained PRINCIPESSA has finished bridesmaid in all three starts this time in and is overdue for a win. Last start, the Vadamos mare failed by a mere head to win a BM72 Hcp over 1250m at Canterbury. She swung wide on the turn and finished strongly but arrived one stride too late and had to settle for yet another silver medal. With 12 minor placings from her 15 career starts, she is on the verge of becoming another Tom Melbourne but facing similar company here and fitter for those three runs, she gets another crack at them today. Jason Collett remains in the saddle after seven previous rides ended in a win and six other podium finishes. The ever-consistent mare can give this contest a real shake today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.3  DEMITASSE  ($2.30 with Palmerbet)

The Paul Messara-trained DEMITASSE has come back in great touch and looks a big chance at back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Shalaa gelding was second-up off a 19-week spell and went one better than his first-up second by taking out a Class 3 Hwy Hcp, here over 1400m on the main track. In an open affair, they sent him out a $5 favourite and he didn’t disappoint, winning by more than a length on the line. Having had previous success on the galloper, Aaron Bullock is in the saddle once again and fitter for two runs back, the three-year-old looks poised for another big effort here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.8  CALIFORNIA GRASS  ($9 with Ladbrokes)

Locally-trained by John Thompson, CALIFORNIA GRASS is high-flying at the moment and looks a solid chance of bringing up the hat-trick today. The Al Maher filly has won two-straight Class 1/Maiden Hcps at Newcastle and Wyong and now takes on the city class company. The last-start Wyong win was impressive where she quickly took control on straightening and left them to fight over the minors as she strolled away and crossed the line more than four lengths ahead of them. Reece Jones has the ride today where she drops 2kgs as she steps up a little in grade. Coming in on the limit, she looks in the mix at great odds here.
