BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.4  BLUE KENTUCKY MOON  ($2.90 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Graeme Green, BLUE KENTUCKY MOON is second-up today and his wrap-sheet suggests he will be hard to beat in this contest. Last start, the No Nay Never gelding resumed from a 20-week break and on fresh legs, took out the Emerald Lightning Hcp over 1000m. That win made it two from two for jockey Warwick Satherley who is the pilot again today. Already a track and distance winner and a two-time winner when second-up, the six-year-old ticks all the boxes to suggest he will be a serious competitor in this event.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.4  CANNY IMPACT  ($4 with bet365)

The Stuart Kendrick-trained CANNY IMPACT has won two of his three starts here and after four runs back this preparation, looks well placed to bring up another victory today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding saw the tight Mackay track for the first time and did well, beating all but one home in a BM60 Hcp over 1300m. Given the run of the race by Adrian Layt, he looked the winner after taking over but Real Key proved to be better on the day. Rock-hard fit today, Justin Huxtable makes the trip north for today’s assignment and although drawn wide, the five-year-old has the early gate speed to cross and settle better than mid-field. With a little luck in running, he can get the better of them today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.4  EDIFICATION  ($7 with Unibet)

The Clinton Taylor-trained EDIFICATION is third-up today and more than capable of taking this event out. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding was disappointing when finishing last of five runners in a BM70, here over 1500m. With no ‘apparent’ excuses, he simply failed to fire, beaten four lengths on the line. With an impressive resume, we are prepared to forgive him for that unexpected failure and look to seeing him make amends here. He has placed three times from four previous third-up appearances and has three podium finishes here to boast about. Justin Stanley returns for the ride today and he is yet to miss a podium finish on the galloper in five starts here to date. Nicely drawn in gate four, he can bounce back here at odds today.
