BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)  

Race 6 No. 2 DASHING- ($3.55)

Best bet comes up in Race 6 and it is DASHING that should be hard to beat over the 1800m. The consistent performer from the Aaron Purcell yard has placed in all five runs this prep and just missed out in the Mornington Guineas (1600m) at his most recent start when attempting to lead all the way. He was run down late by Lethal Thoughts, while there was a bit of a gap back to Tapa Capall. The three-year-old was a bit keen in that race and gets the blinkers off. Forecast rain in the lead up and on Saturday is a bonus as he likes the Heavy, while the son of Magnue saves ground from the inside barrier.

Race 4 No 1 LARIMER STREET- ($12)

LARIMER STREET represents a bit of value in the opening event of the day at Sandown. The David Jolly-trained galloper comes over from Adelaide and was never on the track when resuming over the 1100m in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes on April 22, dropping out to finish 9th behind Kallos. The five-year-old drops in grade and at his previous preparation he went from a 3rd in a BM82 over the 1050m to a win in a BM86 at Morphettville over the 1000m at this stage. The son of Brazen Beau shouldn’t be too far away in the run and gets the 3kg claim for Laura Lafferty.

Race 7 No.8 PRINCE OF HELENA- ($15.20)

Willing to work around the hot favourite, Globe, in Race 7 at Sandown and think that PRINCE OF HELENA is worth a bit of a play. The well travelled galloper has had two runs this time in and was a bit of an eye-catcher when 3rd at a big price behind Here To Shock in the recent Golden Mile (1600m) at Bendigo. He ran on similar fashion when resuming prior to that. The six-year-old comes off a solid preparation and should be getting towards peak fitness third up, while he loves a track with a bit of the sting out of it.
