Race 6 No. 5 ZOUPURRING  ($5) 

ZOUPURRING shapes as a solid player in Race 6 of the day. The four-year-old has won just one of seven but has been close up in a number of those. At his most recent start, the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper led at Ballarat in a BenchMark 64 before being run down late by He’s Handsome, holding a big gap on the rest and going four lengths faster than standard benchmark. He was scratched from Caulfield Saturday with connections opting to head here instead. 

NEXT BEST 🥈   

Race 5 No. 10 VALOIS- ($6.30) 

VALOIS is worth thought in Race 5. The promising three-year-old was a winner at Mornington two starts back in a BenchMark 64 before tacking a BM70 at Moonee Valley over the 1000m on November 24, running 5th of the five runners behind Our Cracklin Rosie. He was burnt off his feet in the early stages of that race, settling five lengths off them in last position before closing with the fastest last 200m, going 4.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Step up to the 1200m looks ideal and the son of Under The Louvre should be closing off strong.

Race 3 No. 2 SOUS LES NUAGES- ($11) 

This looks to be a suitable assignment for SOUS LES NUAGES. The seven-year-old was a first up winner in the Mortlake Cup (2000m) before heading to the $500,000 Country Cup (2000m) at Sandown, finishing 13th behind Claidheamh Mor. He was up against it that day before landing six lengths away. This is much easier and he should appreciate getting out to the 2400m for the first time this preparation.
