Sandown Tips 10/6/2023
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 8 No. 2 HE’S OUR BONNEVAL- ($3.70)
HE’S OUR BONNEVAL looks cherry ripe for a win. The Busuttin/Young galloper comes into this third up and loomed up to win over the 1400m on May 27 before Monarch Of Egypt gained the upper hand late in the piece. The six-year-old went a healthy 9.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which are the best last starts figures of any runner. Third up last time, the former import was a three-length improver at this stage when stepping to the 1600m and the 3kg claim might come into play at the business end.
NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)
Race 2 No 5 VAGRANT- ($6.60)
VAGRANT claimed a lowly BenchMark 58 as recently as April but has been excellent stepping up in grade at her past two and can go one spot better than a last start effort that saw her finish a narrow runner-up behind Jenny Jerome at Flemington in this grade on May 20. That came over the 1400m and she was posted three deep without cover before sticking on and only going down late. The Mitchell Freedman filly gets the weight swing and just needs to find a better spot in the run to take this out.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 3 No 4 MIMI’S AWARD- ($9.10)
MIMI’S AWARD can just about make it back to back wins when she steps out in Race 3. The mare from the Ben & JD Hayes stable last stepped out at Flemington three weeks ago and was side without cover for much of the 2500m event before going for home early and winning well from Pesto. The five-year-old went 10.5 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is nearly four lengths better than the next best last start benchmark figures of any runner. She usually holds her form when deep into her preparation and saves plenty of ground from the inside barrier.
