Sandown Tips 22/11/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 8 ELBA ($2.20)
ELBA can break through in the opener of the day at Sandown. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper has had the three career starts for three minor placings and was posted back at Moonee Valley on November 3 before running on to fill the exacta behind Mr Charismatic. She produced the fastest last 200m to go 3.3 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner. Step up to the 1400m looks ideal.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No. 6 BELMIA- ($4.40)
Going with BELMIA in Race 6. The four-year-old takes on the likes of the impressive Plenty Of Ammo but should be primed after three runs this preparation. She has a habit of missing the start but jumped well last time at Moonee Valley before scooting home off a slow tempo to produce the fastest last 200m when 4th behind Along The River over the 1200m The Jamie Edwards-trained galloper gets back out to the 1400m and should be suited by the tempo in this race. Craig Williams rides and the pair draw barrier 3.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3 No. 2 LADY IN PINK- ($6)
LADY IN PINK can be an improver in Race 3. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper drops in grade for this assignment after finishing 7th in the Desirable Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day. She was back that day on a slow tempo after drawing wide and encountered some traffic at the top of the straight before sticking on well. Joliestar came out of that and has since claimed the Thousand Guineas (1600m). This looks easier and the daughter of Pariah was excellent at Sandown at this stage of her two-year-old autumn campaign.
