Sandown Tips 28/6/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 8 No. 14  JUST JOHNNO- ($5.25)

JUST JOHNNO can end the day a winner. The Lindsey Smith-trained galloper has had two runs this time in, placing at Hamilton on a Heavy 10 when in need of the run first up before heading to Sandown and overcoming traffic in the straight to fill the exacta behind Riverplate. He might have finished closer were it not for some traffic from the 400m to the 200m. A previous third up winner the six-year-old doesn’t mind a Soft track and draws perfectly in barrier 3 with Beau Mertens on board. He strikes at 25% for the stable, providing a 35% profit on turnover for punters.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 4 No 4  DEFIANT DIVA- ($7.50)

This looks to be a suitable assignment for DEFIANT DIVA. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained mare has been super consistent this preparation and drops back in grade after running 5th at Flemington on June 3 behind Party For One over the 1400m, beaten just over a length. She likes the Lakeside circuit and was a winner at her only go at the track and trip. The last time she raced in a BenchMark 70 came three starts ago at Lakeside and she narrowly went down behind Unusual Culture over the 1500m. That horse has won two races since then. The daughter of Dissident will look to settle in a midfield spot with Billy Egan on board. He is four from 19 for the stable, providing a 27% profit on turnover.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 2 No 14 SEB SONG- ($13)

SEB SONG shapes as an each-way player in Race 2. The five-year-old comes into this third up and ran on at Cranbourne to fill the exacta when resuming over the 1400m before heading to the Hillside circuit and placing 3rd over the 1500m behind Vitruvius. He settled back that day on what was a very slow tempo, producing the fastest 600m-200m sectional before the lack of early pace counted against late in the piece. The son of Sebring should be somewhere near his peak and just needs an even tempo in the big field to run over them at the business end.
