Race 7:  No.6  VERY SHARP  ($4.20 with bet365)

Rod Northam saddles-up local galloper VERY SHARP who is second-up here and has her name all over this race today. Last start, the Bull Point mare was fresh off a six-month lay-off when she put in a solid performance, winning a BM66 Hcp, here over 1000m. Chelsea Hillier was aboard for her fifth ride on the mare and even lumping 61kgs that day, she came from mid-field and still finished best to take home first prize. Hillier has the job again today and well drawn in gate five, she maps to settle near mid-field again and should have cover as well. The six-year-old has every right to claim track specialist status, with her eight starts here resulting in three wins and five minor placings and already a winner when second-up, she looks a serious contender in this contest.

Race 5:  No.3  CALL ME LOUIS  ($5.60 with BoomBet)

Local galloper CALL ME LOUIS is second-up today and looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Spieth gelding resumed off a lengthy six-month absence and impressed when finishing third in a BM58 Hcp over 1300m on Newcastle’s Beaumont track. Despite the long absence, he was sent out a $3.50 race-favourite and box-seated to the turn. Sticking to the fence, he had a Heavy 9 to contend with that day, and on the wettest part of the track, hit the line strongly, beaten less than half a length by the first two past the post in a tight finish. Placed when second-up last preparation, he is well drawn here in gate five and fitter for that first-up run, he should play a serious role in the finish today.

Race 6:  No.10  SEENI  ($5.75 with Picklebet)

Locally-trained by John Ramsey, SEENI is in great touch this time in and looks a genuine winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Snitzel gelding came off a runner-up finish in a Tamworth Maiden Plate over 1000m when he went one better and broke through at Quirindi to record his first career win in eight starts. On a Good 3 that day, he raced wide most of the way but still had enough in store to claim the major prize. Daniel Northey was on him for his last two starts and sticks with him today. The step-up to the 1200m last start appears to have suited him so today’s journey should pose no issues here. Ideally drawn in gate three, a trouble-free run today should have him in the firing line at the business end of the race.
