Strathalbyn Tips 8/10/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 11 DEVIL’S DEXTER – ($5.10)

We were tempted to be with DEVIL’S DEXTER as he raced Third-up here last start. The race just looked very hot on paper and has proven to be so with three winners coming out of it in the short time since. Devil’s Dexter had difficulty obtaining clear galloping room before catching the eye late over 1400 metres at Murray Bridge. The market missed her, letting Devil’s Dexter to get out to as much as $91 on the day here. She was afforded a peach of a ride from Alana Livesey who angled off the fence on turning. She brought Devil’s Dexter with her run up the middle while causing some concern for favourite backers. Diamonds Choice did answer the call for them late in what was a strong race with good depth.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 2 VALAROC – ($3.60)

Local trainer David Jolly finds a good race for VALAROC who should improve second-up. He is a big sort who may take a run or two to find his best. Jumped sharply under Hannah Edgely on the Parks track when resuming. Edgley asked her mount to come back off the good speed as those others kicked up to their inside. Edgely balanced Valaroc to have one run at them into the straight. Valaroc ran the 1000 metres out strongly while finding one better in Wakanjeja who rushed past late. Inside gate is no spoil over the sprint trips at Strathalbyn Racecourse and we’ll hope for luck with Valaroc who looks well placed in this.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2 No. 11 ULTRON – ($10)

Murray Bridge trainer Nicole Irwin found some form with ULTRON at his first run in South Australia. Irwin had taken the former New South Wales galloper up to the NT where Ultron raced without success. He had trialled well here at Strathalbyn Racecourse before taking up an on position over the mile at Murray Bridge. The speed was right on with Callan Murray urging Ultron to the front by the furlong. He was first-up for six weeks with that trial in between and was entitled to feel the pinch. Ultron battled gamely inside the 100m as the second horse got by him with the winner Rue Bungan getting them both in the shadows.
