Strathalbyn Tips 31/05/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 4 FIGHT FOR FREEDOM – ($6.60)

Jason Holder sticks with the Bill Bogarts trained FIGHT FOR FREEDOM for a take two run over this track and trip. Settled back of midfield with him to score a rare second-up win at Oakbank over 1400 metres. Fight For Freedom handled the downhill run as Holder put him into the race before coming away nearer to the outside fence. Fight For Freedom is a horse who typically takes a few runs to find his best and he surprised a few with an early win. We were on as our Best Bet in similar conditions here last start when nothing went right for him. Holder had initially found a handy position before becoming shuffled back in a muddling run race. Continued to come on when the race was over and now drops a couple of kilos while meeting similar opposition.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 11 SUPER ALANA – ($2.90)

Kayla Crowther takes the ride of SUPER ALANA for local trainers Wayne Francis & Glen Kent. The filly has not had the best of luck to date and this could change at Strathalbyn Racecourse on Wednesday. There would appear to be some good speed drawn inside of her for Kayla to follow before building momentum up the hill. Super Alana had drawn wide again last start and resented being restrained as her rider attempted to get in somewhere. It was to no avail as Super Alana had been forced to track wide throughout. She stuck on gamely for third while being inclined to hang in under pressure late. Meets similar conditions while stripping fitter third-up in a race without the same depth as last start.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3 No. 13 VOILA LA VALSE – ($21)

Would think we are currently at the bottom of the market with VOILA LA VALSE who is ready to improve. Start price profile of this horse tells us that she is likely to start at much longer odds than currently available in the early market. Narrung trainer David Huxtable has found a thin maiden for Voila La Valse who hasn’t finished too far off them of late. No luck last start as Caitlin Tootell attempted to find a midfield position from the outside gate. She was forced to race back and wide throughout with Voila La Valse who didn’t shirk the issue. Drawn out again, though in a race which lacks depth. Should Tootell find her way close enough to the rail and into a midfield position, then Voila La Valse can surprise a few of these.
