Belmont Tips 31/05/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No. 7 FOREVER CLASSIC – ($2.50)

There doesn’t look to be heaps of genuine speed for FOREVER CLASSIC to contend with when resuming at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday. There should still be some good pressure brewing though as we can expect in a larger sized field. Forever Classic jumped well for Brad Parnham in a recent trial to follow the speed before going on to score. Parnham didn’t ask a lot of him which hopefully shows there’s plenty of freshness still in the tank. Forever Classic showed enough promise in all four runs throughout his debut prep where Parnham was happy to stalk the leaders. Looked home at his third run when booting clear over 1200 metres at Ascot, only to be overrun late by Madame Magic. All that form is good enough for this and Forever Classic puts himself into good positions to win races.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 2 TWICE A FORTNIGHT – ($10)

The outside gate in the small field probably won’t hurt TWICE A FORTNIGHT too much. The obvious query is coming back to 1200 metres after winning over a mile last start. Paddy Carbery gave Twice A fortnight a lovely steer when the horse won over this trip earlier in the prep. The pair had been tucked away by the fence towards the back of the field with Twice A Fortnight sprinting sharply as the gaps appeared. Trainer Phillip Henwood has steadily stepped him out since, with Austin Galati looking all but home on him two starts back. Galati waited for the cutaway before hitting the front into the straight only to be run down over 1400m. Gutsy last stride win last start and has the turn of foot to get over them while back in trip.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3 No. 9 SHEZGOTTHALOT – ($21)

The good speed on up front should suit SHEZGOTTHALOT who may find herself tracking closer from an inside gate. Her trials leading into debut were okay without all the flashing lights of an above average horse. The market reflected as much when trainer Todd Harvey sent her around over 1200 metres at York. She held that opening quote of $6.50 throughout betting with some nibbles in between. Jade McNaught asked Shezgottelot to come back off them from the wider gate with the speed dropping out in front. Her horse was always trucking from a long way from home as McNaught circumnavigated the field rounding for home. Shezgotthelot rattled off the fastest last 600m sectional of the day to score while coming away. The third placed runner was Tin Chooks who recorded the second-fastest last 600m. That horse has since come out to win his maiden, and Shezgotthelot can go close here also.
