Race 8:  No.8  QUADRI  ($3.15 with BoomBet)

Kelly Schweida saddles-up QUADRI here who is yet to miss a podium finish in her four career-starts to date and looks poised for another top-three finish in this contest. Last start, the Savabeel mare was having her first start on Australian soil and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in a BM62 Hcp over 1350m at Ipswich. Settling last from the wide draw, she spotted the front-runners ten lengths at one stage. Turning for home with James Orman aboard, she was the widest runner and despite the small home straight, finished like a train and arrived in time to pick-up the minor prize money. Orman sticks with mare today who gets the gun-run from gate one as she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with plenty of cover. Fitter for that impressive Australian debut, a clear run to the line here should see her storming home again and prove hard to hold out today.

Race 3:  No.4  CONNELLY  ($5.75 with Bet Right)

The Team Edmonds-trained CONNELLY is high flying at the moment and looks set for another bold performance here today. Last start, the Capitalist gelding made it two wins from his past three starts when he proved too good for them in a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at Ballina. Jumping from gate 10 of 11 that day, he carried 60kgs and settled one out, one back with Andrew Mallyon aboard. On straightening, he ranged alongside the leader and gave him a cold as he took over and race away to win by more than a length on the line. Leading hoop, Ryan Maloney, has the reins today and in such good form of late, looks the one to beat again.

Race 5:  No.5  TAIRUA  ($6 with Ladbrokes)

The locally-trained TAIRUA is a track specialist and second-up here looks right in the mix at odds. Last start, the Reliable Man mare resumed off a four-month break and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a strong Class 4 Hcp over 1200m at Eagle Farm. Trainer Paul Jenkins has given the mare an eight-week freshen-up since then as she returns to her home track where she has won four of her seven starts. Jaden Lloyd is legged aboard for his first ride on the mare who gets all the favours from gate one today as she returns to provincial class company. A trouble-free run here and she could give this contest a real fright.
