Race 2 No. 15 HEARTONI ($2.95)

Two winning trials is enough to have us backing HEARTONI against the odds-on pop in the first at Ipswich Racecourse on Friday. We haven’t seen Tricketeer publicly as both horses prepare to resume over 800 metres. Heartoni looks to have improved on his one and only run where sat handy to the speed. The winner came away from him while Heartoni just held ground over the other on the synthetic track. Showed speed in a 650 metre trial to move well with some cut in the ground. Missed the kick slightly in his second trial which was over 850 metres. Had the clear class edge over his opposition in good time. We were keen to be with Heartoni over 800m at Ipswich on Friday with the stable opting to run here instead.

Race 1 No. 2 VAN NUYS ($3.90)

We’ll go with track and distance winner VAN NUYS to win the first at the Sunshine Coast Racecourse on Sunday. Jayden Lloyd gave him a peach of a steer when the horse won over this track and trip two runs ago. Lloyd settled Van Nuys on the fence behind the speed before taking the gap into the straight. The pair darted away to put a winning break over his rivals. Backers had some late cause for concern as Leored surged out of the pack to just miss Van Nuys in a photo. The quinella horses had left a fair gap back to the rest with John Symons & Sheila Laxon sending Van Nuys to town at his next start. Van Nuys got a little further back and was okay to the line in a race that rates highly. Will enjoy the step back in class and Van Nuys finds a chance to win another.

Race 6 No. 8 BETTER LAD ($10)

Consistent performer BETTER LAD can be in the finish once again as Trevor Miller sends him over 1400 metres at home. Matthew Powell let Better Lad find his feet early over this track and trip two starts ago before going on a searching run around the field. Better Lad proved to be a class above his restricted 62 class rivals as he ran away from them to score. Settled midfield with the winner Hotstep posted three-wide around him last time. The winner ran a gutsy race to kick clear into the straight and hold on as Better Lad put the big strides in late. One gets the feeling that Better Lad felt his big weight as he took a long time to build into his stride. Finds that weight relief now and can turn the tables with some even luck into the straight.
