BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.3 SUPERARE ($2.90 with TAB)
Locally-trained by Stuart Kendrick, SUPERARE is a genuine track specialist and in the small field today, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Exceed And Excel gelding came off a run of ‘outs’ (on other tracks) when he returned here to face Open class company in a 1000m Hcp. With Ben Thompson aboard, he was sent out an outsider at $14, but showing his love for Corbould Park, still got the job done. He ran his last 600m, 4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field, while also recording the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals in the race. His resume shows seven starts here for five wins and with Thompson remaining in the saddle today, he looks the testing material again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.5 MARLEEDOONE ($4.20 with Palmerbet)
The Eagle Farm-based MARLEEDOONE makes the two-hour trip north to Caloundra in an attempt to shake the maiden monkey and should be at peak fitness today to achieve that goal. Last start, the Falvelon mare was saddled-up for her tenth shot at cracking her first win when she came up short again, finishing third over the mile at Doomben. She ran her last 600m, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best here by 2 lengths. She also ran the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. Boris Thornton will ride her for the third time today and from gate nine, she maps to settle back in the field, but with cover. She has had no luck to date with six minor money finishes coming from her ten career starts and is way overdue for a break-through and it can happen today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.7 TONI TOO ($8.50 with bet365)
Local galloper TONI TOO is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to her in the mix here. Last start, the Tavistock mare resumed from a nine-week let-up when she finished mid-field in a BM58 Hcp, here over an unsuitable 1300m contest. She drew wide that day (gate 10 of 12) and travelling back in the field, was never a threat, but still hit the line nicely to beat half of them home. She still managed to run her last 600m, 2.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Craig Robertson sticks with her here and today, gets the gun-run from gate one. With both career-wins to date coming at Corbould Park and already a winner when second-up, she (currently) looks outstanding value with the bagmen and well worth an each-way ticket today.
