Gold Coast galloper HILO resumes today off a six-month absence and boasting a solid fresh record and two successful trials, he looks a force here. Last start, the Lonhro gelding ended his last campaign finishing just behind the placegetters in the Listed Glasshouse Quality Hcp, here over 1400m. On a Heavy 10m he was crowded on the turn and tightened for room but finished well considering the circumstances. He was then spelled and returned to work last month finishing top-two in both trials, winning the last with James Orman on board. Orman sticks with him here for his first ‘race-ride’ on the six-year-old who is already a two-time winner when first-up and a three-winner over the 1200m trip. He looks the testing material here.

Race 7:  No.12  ALPHA JANE  ($11 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by Darryl Hansen, ALPHA JANE is second-up here and on her home track, looks a serious contender in this contest. Last start, the Easy Rocking filly was fresh off a 19-week spell when she beat all but one home in a BM0-58 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. She ran her last 600m, 3.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. The filly also posted the fastest final 800m to 200 sectionals for the race. Fitter for that fresh run, the step-up in trip here looks ideal for her (going by her last-start finish) and Tiff Brooker retains the ride as well. She has drawn wide but will drop back anyway and be doing her best work in the run home. She looks in the mix and (currently) at great odds.
