Race 4:  No.4  DARK TANGENT  ($5 with Bet Right)

The barry Lockwood-trained DARK TANGENT has improved with every start and now looks ready to frank his last-start win and stake a claim for victory here today. Last start, the Defcon gelding finally broke through for his Maiden win, taking out the 1625m event at Toowoomba by a length on the line. He ran his last 600m, 6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He steps-up in distance today but looks up to it after his big finish last start. Jaden Lloyd returns for today’s assignment after finishing second on the four-year-old two starts back at Eagle Farm. Rock-hard fit after six starts this time in, he shapes-up as a major contender in this contest.

Race 8:  No.2  PALATIAL PRINCE  ($8.50 with Picklebet)

Stuart Kendrick saddles-up PALATIAL PRINCE here who is second-up and on turf again, looks a winning chance today. Last start, the former Victorian galloper had his first start for the Kendrick stable and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fourth in a BM0-58 Hcp over 1200m on the synthetic track at the Gold Coast. That was his first start in six months and his first look at a Qld track. Today will be his first run on a turf track since October last year and Damien Thornton has the reins today. Nicely drawn in gate seven, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover, and fitter for that first-up run, he can give this contest a real shake today.

Race 7:  No.15  MICROWAVE JENNY  ($12 with Ladbrokes)

The Tony Gollan-trained MICROWAVE JENNY is now three starts into this campaign and should now be ready to fire in tis contest. Last start, the Love Conquers All mare was third-up at Ipswich when she took on a Class 3 Plate over 1200m and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth with Cejay Graham on board for the first time. She made up good ground in the run home after settling well back in the run. She covered the trip, 2.5 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She won her maiden here at her only previous look at the track. Ideally drawn in gate three today, Graham sticks with her where she looks a genuine winning chance in this field at great each-way odds.
