BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.8  SMYTZER  ($2.45 with Palmerbet)

The David Vandyke-trained SMYTZER is four starts into this preparation and now looks ready to win. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding took on a BM65 Hcp over 1500m at Eagle Farm and beat all but one home, beaten a whisker on the line. He ran the trip, 3 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. He drops sharply in grade here and returns to provincial class racing and with Ryan Maloney remaining on board, he should get every conceivable chance to bring up his first win for this campaign today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1:  No.1  SAILOR’S SECRET  ($5.50 with Unibet)

Kelly Schweida saddles-up SAILOR’S SECRET here and in the small field, looks a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding was fresh off a 15-week break when he finished just behind the placegetters in a BM72 Hcp over 1050m at Doomben. He ran his last 600m, 1 length quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here. Ryan Maloney is in charge today and fitter for that first-up run, the extra distance suits here and with a trouble-free run, he can take home the chocolates in this contest.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.8  PAPERCLIP  ($34 with bet365)

The locally-trained PAPERCLIP has four podium finishes from five starts this time in and looks a tad overs in this contest today. Last start, the Whittington gelding drew the outside gate (11) and crossed early to lead in a BM62 Hcp, here over 1200m. He fought on strongly to beat off the challengers and score a good win that day. Today, he draws much better in gate five and maps to settle better than mid-field. He meets similar opposition here as Michael Hellyer takes the reins today. With a trouble-free run, the five-year-old could very well end up on the podium again at big odds.
