BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.3 GOBBLED ($3.50 with Neds)
The Brett Dodson-trained GOBBLED is in good touch and he looks set to clock-up career-win number four today. Last start, the Star Witness gelding took on Class 2 company over 1300m at Coffs Harbour and with Jasper Franklin in the saddle, came from behind to take the honours in that contest. He ran the last 600m, 1.8 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. Franklin sticks with him here and from gate four, he maps to settle just behind the pace. With a trouble-free run, he looks the one to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.4 HYLAND BAY ($2.80 with Unibet)
Inverell galloper HYLAND BAY has picked-up where he left off last preparation and looks set to challenge this contest today. Last start, the Shamus Award gelding was third-up and proved too good for a Class 1/Maiden field, here on a Heavy 10 over 1900m. Drawn wide that day (10 of 11), he settled mid-field with Ben Looker aboard and finished best in the run home to grab the major prize on the line. Looker sticks with him today and already a track and distance winner on a wet track, conditions look ideal for him to make it back-to-back victories here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.7 KING’S GOLD ($5.50 with BlueBet)
Glen Innes-based galloper KING’S GOLD has hit the ground running and after three starts in, looks a solid winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Sooboog gelding did it in style when he broke through for his Maiden win at Grafton when he put more than two lengths on them in the 1000m contest. With Luke Rolls in the saddle, he ran a new personal best, covering the trip, 5.3 lengths slower than benchmark, second-best to Mystery Lad (who has a little more weight to contend with here but still in the hunt). He also ran the fastest final 800m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Drawn in gate six, he maps to settle on-speed with Rolls sticking with him for the event. Even fitter for three starts this time in, he looks a better than even chance of victory here.
