BEST BET 🏆
Race 2 No. 7 DISTANT – ($2.70)
An effortless barrier trial win in the fastest time of the day has us backing DISTANT first-up at Tamworth Racecourse on Friday. Trainer Cody Morgan has not been able to gain any traction with the filly being spelled both times she has seen the starter. She wanted to hang badly on debut here twelve months ago, though did a good job to finish behind the placings. Showed enough speed to lead when resuming again, also over this track and trip. DISTANT ended-up being claimed in the shadows by Pocket Picker while the pair ran the fastest 1000 metres of the day. Should expect pressure from out wider on Friday as they do in these jump and run maiden races. Distant has shown that she can run time and should be right amongst the finish again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 2 SOOPAT – ($5.75)
Hard to knock the form of SOOPAT who we are getting an each-way price to have a look at as he resumes on Friday. Soopat put two wins together last prep, including breaking his maiden over this track and trip while racing first-up. Jasper Franklin made full use of their inside draw after Soopat was slow to begin. They slid up along the fence to follow the leader into the straight before holding out the rest. Showed better barrier manners as Aaron Bullock had him outside the leader next start at Gunnedah. Soopat knuckled down to task under his 60 kgs as the inside horse tried to kick back into the straight. Soopat proved too strong in and he’s a worthy each-way play in the last of the day at Tamworth.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 8 HOMBRE – ($8)
The bar plates coming off HOMBRE should see the horse move more freely second-up. Hombre had come back from a long spell of just over a year when he resumed over 950 metres at Moree three weeks ago. He resented being snagged to the back from his wide gate as he wanted to get on with it while fresh. Apprentice rider Ronald Simpson did a good job to find a path back to the fence with Hombre after searching for runs between horses. His mount finished off well despite peaking on his run late in the race and he will have taken benefit from the work. Should find a better run in transit from the draw as senior jock Matthew Palmer comes on for the ride.
