Gosford galloper, ALICIA ROMA, has finished top-two in her past five starts and second-up today looks the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Your Song mare returned to racing off a six-month absence and did well to beat all but one home in a BM78 Hcp over 900m at Newcastle. Andrew Gibbons boasts three wins and as many minor placings from his six previous rides on the mare and remains in the saddle for today’s assignment. Fitter, and already a winner when second-up, she should have too many guns for this field today.

Race 3: No.4 HEADLEY GRANGE ($4.80 with Palmerbet)

The Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained HEADLEY GRANGE won impressively on debut and looks a good chance of going back-to-back today. Last start, the Exosphere gelding made his racing debut at Grafton where he enjoyed instant success, winning a Maiden Plate over 1115m. Coming from last before the turn, he stormed home to grab victory on the line. Darryl McLellan is the pilot today and a repeat of his debut effort should put him right in the ball park here.

Kempsey galloper, MONTE DI FIORE, is no stranger to the Taree track and three starts into this preparation, he should be ready to peak and give this contest a real shake at odds today. Last start, the Eurozone gelding had to make his own luck from back in the field and managed to weave through traffic to grab third prize in a Class 3 Hcp over 1005m at Coffs Harbour. The extra trip here looks ideal for him now as Peter Graham sticks with him and with a trouble-free run today, he can give this contest a real shake at good each-way odds.
