The Kris Lees-trained BETTER NOT BITTER took little time to find his mojo this time in and looks the testing material in this contest. Improving with every run this preparation, the Starspangledbanner gelding got it together last start when he finally broke through for his Maiden win over 1500m at Port Macquarie. Aaron Bullock had him mid-field on the turn where he straightened-up, re-balanced and then unleashed with a powerful finish, destroying his rivals as he crossed the line almost four lengths ahead of them. Drawn well in gate five, Bullock sticks with him here and carrying no more weight, he should take beating again.

Race 2:  No.2  SCHILLER BAY  ($2.80 with Picklebet)

Port Macquarie trainer, Jenny Graham, saddles-up SCHILLER BAY here who is knocking on the door for a win after four starts back and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a winning chance today. Last start, the Artie Schiller gelding came from well back on the turn and finished strongly to grab third prize in an Open company Hcp over 1181m at Grafton. Drawn gate nine (of ten) that day, he settled near last and after being blocked for a run, he did his best work late to grab his spot on the podium. Drawn better today in gate four, he maps to settle mid-field or better on the fence and has Aaron Bullock on board for the first time. His only previous visit to the Taree track ended in a win over this distance and rock-hard fit after those four runs back, he looks a prime contender for the major prize today.

Race 1:  No.3  SUMO FISH  ($5 with Bet Right)

In an open market here, there’s value to be had as we run with local galloper SUMO FISH who is in good touch of late and has claims for victory today. Last start, the Sebring Sun gelding was fourth-up this preparation when he broke through for his Maiden win over 1200m at Port Macquarie. Drawn wide that day (8 of 12), he was trapped three-wide without cover to the turn, then fanning even wider, Andrew Gibbons asked him for a final effort and he obliged, taking over in the final 150m, and secured victory by a length on the line. Gibbons sticks with him today and with fourth runs under his belt now, he should be rock-hard fit and ready to rumble.
