BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.1  SPEED LEGEND  ($2 with Picklebet)

The Roy Chillemi-trained SPEED LEGEND has been in red-hot form since joining the stable (previously with Les Bridge) and looks ideally placed here for back-to-back victories at Cluden Park. Last start, the Star Witness gelding made it two out of three when he came from mid-field on the turn to finish best and grab victory on the line in a Class 3 Plate, here over 1200m. They broke 1:10 for the trip (1:09.6) where he brought up his second (third-up) win with Jason Taylor aboard. Today, Lacey Morrison is re-united with seven-year-old after steering him to victory two starts back in Class 2 company at Cairns. Now a track winner, he steps up to the 1400m where he has already tasted success and from gate one today, he should prove very hard to beat here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.2  ALLIED COMMAND  ($4.40 with Ladbrokes)

Tablelands trainer Sharlee Hoffman saddles-up ALLIED COMMAND here who has been knocking on the door since returning to the track and now looks ready to win. Last start, the Rich Enuff gelding took on Class 2 company at the Cannon Park track in Cairns and finished strongly to grab third prize in the 950m contest. Lacey Morrison was having her fifth ride on the galloper that day where she added to her impressive tally of a win and three minor placings with the six-year-old. At his peak today, ‘Lethal Lacey’ has the reins again and returning to the 1200m trip can only help his cause here. A clear run to the line today should see him in a winning position at some stage and career-win number three will be at his mercy.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3:  No.5  ASPEN LAD  ($6.10 with BoomBet)

Rockhampton galloper ASPEN LAD is back to his best after four starts this preparation and looks set for back-to-back victories today. Last start, he returned to the winner’s circle with a hard-fought victory at Yeppoon where he hung on to win by a nostril in Open company over 1100m. Natalea Summers was aboard for her 12th ride on the Bagger Vance gelding where she celebrated her fourth victory as well. He returns to the Cluden Park track where he is a bit of a track specialist here, boasting three wins and as many minor placings from his seven previous visits to Townsville. His early gate-speed should see him overcome the wide draw which isn’t a real concern in the small field. At his peak here, he should prove hard to run down today.
