Race 7:  No.10  ANG POW  ($6.75 with Bet Right)

The Team Freedman-trained ANG POW is first-up today but has enough runs on the board to suggest he can win here today. Last start, the well-bred Flying Artie gelding ended his last campaign with back-to-back victories, the last of those being a NMW Hcp over 1400m at Eagle Farm. He gave them a galloping lesson that day, putting 2.5 lengths on the field as he crossed the line. Four gallopers in that event have since won which is good form to bring here. He has placed twice in two trials since then and lines up here with Jeff Penza in charge for the first time. Already a two-time winner from three previous first-up appearances, he has drawn nicely in gate four and on fresh legs today, should prove hard to hold out here.

Race 4:  No.5  DUCHY OF CORNWALL  ($5.40 with BoomBet)

Local galloper DUCHY OF CORNWALL is having his third race start today and sporting a gear change here, looks a solid chance of bringing up win number two. Last start, the Hallowed Crown gelding came off a resounding Maiden win but after a poor start, couldn’t match it with them and finished down the track in a BM58 Hcp over the longer 1600m trip. Never a chance from the outset, he made up lost early ground but with 61kgs on his back, to was done as they straightened and finished a long way from the winner in the end. Trainer, Tim Donnelly, puts the blinkers on him for the first time here and a 3.5kg drop in weight will also be an advantage today. Ideally drawn in gate three, he should enjoy a cushy run and back on home soil, prove hard to beat.

Race 5:  No.10  DIAMOND CLASS  ($14 with Ladbrokes)

The Len Hodgson-trained DIAMOND CLASS has finished on the podium in five of her past eight starts and looks a genuine chance of adding another notch to her resume today. Last start, the seven-year-old mare returned to a top-three finish when she took home third prize in a BM65 Hcp over 1600m at Canberra. She drew wide that day (gate 9 of 10) and came from well back to grab the minor placing that day. Much better drawn here in gate two, she does no early work and after the claim, carries 2.5kgs less than last start. With a trouble-free run here, she looks well worth an each-way ticket, currently at double-figure odds.
