Race 4 No. 8 SLATE RIPPER- ($6.50) 

Going with SLATE RIPPER in Race 4. The locally trained galloper has been unable to place in his four career runs but should find this easier than a last start effort that saw him finish 8th at Caulfield on December 14 over the 1600m. He settled back in that race and stuck on to land just over three lengths from the winner. He ran on well at his two runs prior to that and with a number of key scratchings here, the son of Divine Prophet gets his chance.

Race 5 No. 9  SIR TOROBEEL-  ($8) 

Promising first up effort from SIR TOROBEEL and the four-year-old can just about go one spot better here. That run came at Kyneton in this grade and he was posted wide without cover throughout but kept coming, producing the fastest last 200m to just miss behind Kyokushin, with those two putting a gap on the rest. The son of Toronado went 0.8 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner in this race. With any improvement to come, he is right in this and represents value at the quote.
