Race 7 No. 5 SUGAR AND SWEET – ($2.70)

SUGAR AND SWEET can go close at his second run back from a spell. The four-year-old resumed at Donald on July 11 and settled midfield in a slowly run race over the 1000m before closing off in fair fashion to run 4th behind Frisson. At his second run of his preparation earlier this year he led them up at Stawell before just being run down late by Chill with Teejay. Step up to the 1200m looks in his favour and his career peak benchmark figure came over that distance when 4th in a strong form race behind Smart Mozzie earlier this year. Jarrod Fry will look to tuck inputs behind them from barrier 8 and the pair should be right in the thick of it at the business end.

Race 8 No. 12 FAST MELODY – ($4.20)

Race 8 is a BenchMark 58 over the 1600m and FAST MELODY should go close after an eye-catching effort at his last start behind Annie’s Comet at Donald over the 1350m on July 11. On that occasion, the five-year-old settled back and was held up until the 200m mark before charging at them late to finish just over a length behind the winner in 5th position. He went four lengths slower than standard, which are the best last start figures of any runner. His best distance seems to be the 1600m-1700m range and he comes into this full of fitness.
