Race 2:  No.9  LYRICAL GANGSTER  ($5.60 with BoomBet)

The Chris Waller-trained LYRICAL GANGSTER has made a solid start to his racing career and looks well placed here to make it two from three today. Last start, the Proisir gelding came off a winning debut at Newcastle when he wasn’t disgraced in finishing third in a harder BM64 Hcp over 1500m at Kembla Grange. He draws the outside gate here but should still settle mid-field in the run. Waller makes a gear change here by fitting a tongue tie for the first time. James McDonald jumps aboard for the first time and fitter for two runs, he should be running on late over the mile trip here.

Race 6:  No.4  ARALE  ($6 with Ladbrokes)

The Team Snowden-trained ARALE is in great touch this time in and being a wet track lover, looks set for a big effort here today. Last start, the Foxwedge mare beat all but one home in a BM72 Hcp over 1550m on the Kensington track at Randwick. Trying to lead all the way, she found the trip just a little far but held on well for the runner-up’s cheque that day. She gets the gun-run here from gate one and maps to be in pride of place again, showing them the way from barrier rise. Reece Jones returns for his second ride on the four-year-old who has finished on the podium no less than eight times from eleven start on wet tracks. She drops back to the 1400m trip where she is a three-time winner at the distance and if she’s left alone in front to dictate the speed, she can give this contest a real shake today.

Race 5:  No.8  SPROUT WINGS  ($14.20 with BoomBet)

Newcastle galloper SPROUT WINGS is third-up today and has done enough this preparation to suggest she can make her presence felt in this contest at good odds. Last start, the Choisir mare found the 1900m at Canterbury a bit far when second-up, finishing fourth in the BM72 event. Prior to that, she faced a Heavy 8 on this track and with Kathy O’Hara aboard, had no trouble in taking out a BM72 Hcp over the mile trip that day, carrying 57.5kgs. She has the same weight to carry here and O’Hara sticks with her for this contest after already steering the five-year-old to three of her four career wins to date (which have all come on wet tracks). The Soft 7 today looks ideal for her chances here and (currently) at double-figures, she represents great value in this field and is well worth an each-way ticket.
