BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.3 STORM THE RAMPARTS ($2.90 with Bet Right)
The Joe Pride-trained STORM THE RAMPARTS is second-up here and looks well placed in the small field for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Headwater gelding resumed off a lengthy eight-month absence when he took out a BM68 over 1000m at Gosford. Ridden a treat by Josh Parr, he sat behind the leader to the turn, took over soon after, and held them all at bay to score by a length on the line. Ideally drawn here in gate two, Parr sticks with him and fitter for that first-up win, looks the testing material here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.5 FLIC EN FLAC ($9 with Ladbrokes)
The Maher & Eustace-trained FLIC EN FLAC is second-up today and did enough at Goulburn to suggest she is more than capable of taking out this contest. Last start, the four-year-old was fresh off a lengthy 22-week absence when she put in a solid effort to take home third prize in a Class 3 contest over 1300m. Trying to lead all the way, she led them to the 100m mark where her condition gave out, but stuck on well for the minor money, beaten less than a length on the line. Fitter for that run and already a winner when second-up, she was scratched from yesterday’s Newcastle meeting to here and could prove hard to run down today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.4 DECEIVE ($7.50 with Bet Right)
John Thompson saddles-up DECEIVE here who is in top-shelf form this time in and looks right in the mix at odds today. Last start, the Deep Field mare made it two wins from three starts this preparation when she proved too good for them in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Wyong. With Keagan Latham aboard, she ran the trip in a handy 1:09.5 with 58.5kgs on her back. Today, she carries 2kgs more and has Latham sticking with her for this assignment. If she can cross early from gate nine and find a sit near mid-field with cover, she just might prove hard to hold out in her current frame of mind.
