BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.5 LITTLE COINTREAU ($2.25 with Palmerbet)
Joe Pride saddles-up LITTLE COINTREAU here who is second-up today and looks set for a big effort here. Last start, the Contributer gelding settled mid-field before finishing strongly to grab third prize in a 1300m Maiden Hcp on a heavy track at Kembla Grange. With Keagan Latham aboard, he couldn’t get a clear shot at them until the gap came at the 200m mark where he battled on gamely to score that podium finish. Ideally drawn in gate two, he maps to settle better than midfield with cover. Latham sticks with him today and fitter for that first-up effort, he can break through today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.1 CHIEF CONDUCTOR ($2.70 with Ladbrokes)
Locally-trained by Sara Ryan, CHIEF CONDUCTOR is in top-shelf this preparation and on his home track today, he looks the testing material in this contest. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding came off consecutive minor placings when third-up, he destroyed his rivals in a BM68 Hcp over the 1000m sprint at Hawkesbury. On a Soft 7 that day, he led on settling and went on to give them all a galloping lesson and he put four lengths on them across the line. He drops a little in grade today and has an extra 3kgs to carry but going on his performance at Hawkesbury, that shouldn’t concern him at all. We haven’t had much luck tipping topweights of late but this well-bred four-year-old (out of a Snitzel mare) just might end the drought today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1: No.4 EPICUS ($3.40 with BoomBet)
Formerly with the Chris Waller stable, EPICUS has his first start for local trainer Kristen Buchanan today and third-up here, looks every chance of breaking through for his first win. Last start, the Capitalist gelding improved enough from his first-up run to make the podium when finishing third in a 1250m Maiden at Newcastle. He fought it out with two others and the three of them hit the line together, where he just faded over the final 50m, leaving him with the minor money in the end. He will strip even fitter here after those two runs as Koby Jennings jumps aboard for the second time today. Nicely drawn in gate four, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and with a clear run to the line, he should prove hard to hold out here.
