Caulfield Tips for Saturday, August 2
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 8 No. 6 ASFOORA – ($4)
We see the return of ASFOORA in the Group 3 McCafe Stakes and the Henry Dwyer mare can take this out at the first run of her spring campaign. The lightly raced five-year-old has won six of 11 and was a tad unlucky at the first run of her last campaign when 3rd in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Sandown. She was then held up when 4th in the Galaxy (1100m) before looming as the winner in the inaugural The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot before going down late. She comes into this with a winning trial and draws perfectly in barrier 3 for a winning return.
NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)
Race 3 No 2 BELLE ET RICHE – ($3.70)
BELLE ET RICHE can go close in Race 3 of the day at Caulfield. The consistent performer from the Mitchell Freedman stable resumed at Moonee Valley on August 12 over the 1200m and produced an eye-catching run to finish 4th behind Maximillius. She settled back in that race before producing the fastest last 200m. Step up to the 1400m looks perfect and at the same stage of her last preparation she was a 5.4 length improver on benchmark figures when runner-up at Sandown. The daughter of Rich Enuff draws barrier 4 for this and will be ridden by Jordan Childs, who strikes at 22% for the stable, delivering a 19% profit on turnover.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 5 No 1 LITTLE BROSE – ($7.50)
Banking on some improvement from LITTLE BROSE in the McNeil Stakes (1200m). The Group 3 pits some promising three-year-olds up against one another. The Hayes galloper lacked a bit of dash at the business end when resuming with a 4th in the Vain Stakes (1100m) behind Cylinder on August 19, settling handy and sticking on. Second up last time, the son of Per Incanto was a 12-length improver on benchmark figures when going from a runner-up over the 1100m at Sandown to claim the Blue Diamond (1200m) at his next start. Michael Dee sticks on board and is six from 15 for the stable, providing a 36% profit on turnover for punters.
