It is the Caulfield Guineas Day at Caulfield on Saturday, with some of the best three-year-old colts and geldings in action. The 10-race card also includes the Toorak Handicap and Schillaci Stakes.

BEST BET: BROADSIDING
Race 8
Since breaking his maiden in a Listed contest at Randwick back in April, Broadsiding has won five straight races. The son of Too Darn Hot has been successful at the highest level in his last two outings, with victories coming in the J.J. Atkins at Eagles Farms and Golden Rose at Rosehill.
The Caulfield Guineas has been one of the early targets that trainer James McDonald has had in mind for his colt this season. He is the highest-rated runner (official rating of 110) in this field by some distance, with Mayfair next best with a mark of 96.
The Godolphin runner is one of the most exciting three-year-olds in Australia and he can enhance his reputation further here with a comfortable success in the Caulfield Guineas.
SECOND BEST BET: MORNINGTON GLORY
Race 9
Talented sprinter Mornington Glory landed a Group One success when he won the Cramer Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley back in September. That was his biggest triumph to date, but it is unlikely to be his last at that level.
Gavin Bedggood’s runner is stepping up to 1100m at Caulfield but the extra 100m will not be a problem. He finished his race strongly last time out at Moonee Valley, so he should still be at top speed in the closing stages of this contest.
The ratings suggest Oscar’s Fortune will be the biggest threat in this Schillaci Stakes but he needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Morphettville on his latest appearance.
Best Value: Desert Lightning
Race 10
Desert Lightning will need to carry top weight of 57kg in this year’s Toorak Handicap but that should not put you off his chances. The five-year-old gelding returned to action at Sandown last month, winning the Group Three Sandown Stakes. That run will have sharpened him up ahead of his assignment.
The draw in barrier 11 has not been kind to the Desert Lightning in this race but with Luke Nolen on his back, the recent Sandown winner can overcome it. He is good value to win the finale on the card at Caulfield.
