Coleraine Tips for Friday, September 29

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 8 No. 1 IS IT ME- ($1.96)

IS IT ME can kick off his campaign with a win. The four-year-old has won two of five and performs well when fresh with a win and a runner-up from two starts. At his last campaign, the four-year-old stepped out at Flemington back in March over the 1400m and was desperately unlucky when runner-up behind Meridius. He then had excuses in the Bendigo Guineas (1600m) before finishing runner-up in a BenchMark 70 at Terang. The Daniel Bowman-trained galloper draws wide and carries weight for this but does look to have a class edge on his rivals.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 5 No 2 YOTOTSU- ($2.90)

YOTOTSU should find this easier than her most recent start that saw her finish 8th of 10 runners at Sandown on August 30. On that occasion, the Maher/Eustace galloper was first up over the 1300m and over-raced in the early to middle stages before battling to the line. At her only other start she was supported as a $1.60 favourite on debut at Pakenham but could only manage 4th. The three-year-old gets some gear changes for this and despite her poor showing last time, she did manage to go 1.7 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. With Linda Meech in the saddle, the daughter of Maurice can bounce back.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 2 MOUNTAINEER- ($4.40)

MOUNTAINEER seemed to enjoy the step up to the 1600m at Bendigo on and can go very close to chalking up his first career win in this race. The five-year-old has finished runner-up in three of four starts and narrowly missed at Donald two starts ago over the 1354m. He settled back at Bendigo on September 14 and they went very slow early on but he worked home in solid fashion. This looks slightly easier and the race sets up nicely with Salsita likely to roll forward, ensuring some tempo.
