Devonport Racing Tips 12 Aug 2026 — can Simply Deep keep it rolling?
Devonport Racing Tips 12 Aug 2026 — can Simply Deep keep it rolling?
Simply Deep turns up at Devonport with the sort of profile that makes you stop scrolling and actually open the form. He’s on a winning streak, he’s proven on this synthetic circuit, and he lands in a race where a lot of his rivals are either inconsistent or still working out what they want to be.
That’s the spine of today’s Devonport meeting, but it’s not the whole story. We’ve got two maidens to start where barrier and intent matter more than raw numbers, then a C1 sprint where the “nearly horse” brigade meets a last start winner, and we finish with a BM68 that looks like a stable flex from the yard that does the most damage at this track.
If you’re here for Devonport racing tips without the copy and paste fluff, you’ll get a clear stance on every race, one danger you actually need to respect, and the way I’d bet it in real life.
Devonport — the setup
All weather at Devonport means you can lean on repeatability a bit more than you can on a winter grass track, but be honest about what the “course stats” are really saying. A stack of today’s runners have only one or two goes here, which is a data point, not a trend.
Where it does get meaningful is with the people who turn up here often. A few riders have a proper body of work at Devonport, and one stable in particular has been printing results for a long time.

Race-by-race
Race 1: Drc Season Opener Mdn Plate — 12:22, 2056m
I’m siding with White Star Suzie. The inside draw (gate 1) matters over this trip, and she’s the one in the field who can land a soft run without needing to be a hero early. Her overall form reads patchy, but she was runner-up the last time she raced at Devonport, and that’s often enough in a low depth maiden over 2056m where plenty don’t truly run it out.
The danger is Gym Princess, mainly because she has at least hinted at upside in recent runs and she maps to get a reasonable spot from gate 3. She’s visited Devonport twice and has one placing here, so she’s not coming in blind to the track.
What I’m wary of: a few in this have had chances. Alla Rustica (three course runs) hasn’t made the top four here yet, and Wet ‘N’ Dry is a seven-year-old still searching for the switch that doesn’t usually arrive at this stage.
Staking: Small win bet White Star Suzie. If the market makes Gym Princess clearly longer than she should be, consider a saver.
Race 2: Goodstone Group Mdn Plate — 12:53, 1103m
This is the first proper puzzle on the card: a short sprint maiden with a mix of lightly raced types and older horses who’ve been around the traps. I’ll take the horse with the clearest recent promise, Brutal Empire. His form line says he’s been competitive without winning, and the recent-results snapshot backs that up: two runs in the last 90 days, two placings, average finish 2.0. That’s not a “close enough” profile, that’s a horse who keeps turning up and doing the right thing.
Barrier 13 is the sting. Over 1103m you don’t want to be doing work early, so he either needs to roll and cross, or snag and rely on a strong late split. Either way, he’s the one I trust most to actually run to his level.
The Red She Devil is the danger purely off the map: drawn 1, can hold a spot, and you don’t need to be a rocket to win a maiden if you get the cushy run. She’s had one look at Devonport and finished sixth, so it’s not a track edge, it’s a position edge.
Brutal Empire is the bet, but don’t turn it into a mortgage. Peninsula Rose and Midway Point have enough “next start” energy about them if the market pushes them out, and Equivaster is the type who can run a place again without screaming winner.
Staking: Win bet Brutal Empire. If the price is short, switch to each-way or a straight place depending on terms.
Race 3: Kevin Sharkie Hcp (C1) — 13:29, 1103m
This is the race where the shape matters more than the names. There’s enough pace drawn across the track to make it messy, and that’s why I want the horse who can sit midfield and sustain a run rather than the one who needs every favour.
Party Day is my pick. He’s been reliable across his last couple and he’s already shown he can win at Devonport. He’s had three goes here for one win and another placing, which is an emerging pattern rather than a track love affair, but it’s still a lot more than many in this field can say. The recent form snapshot is also solid enough to take seriously: two runs in the last 90 days for a win, and he’s still earning prize money when he doesn’t win.
Geegeeschaser is the obvious danger because he keeps finding the line without winning. If this race turns into another “who gets the last crack” sprint home, he’s the one who can stalk and strike. He’s only had one Devonport run, but it was a second, so he’s handled the surface.
If you want the blowout runner to throw into your wider plays, Thermal Miss deserves it. She won on her only Devonport start and comes off a last-start win, which is always the right time to catch a confidence horse, even if the class rise can punish late.
Staking: Win bet Party Day. Quinella saver with Geegeeschaser if you’re playing exotics.

Race 4: Save The Greyhounds (Bm68) — 14:04, 1476m
The market will build this around the winning streak, and it should. Simply Deep has form that reads like a horse in a rhythm: 133311 across the last six, and at Devonport he’s the rare one today you can call a genuine course horse. Six runs here, three wins, and he’s placed every time he’s stepped onto the track. That’s not noise.
He also brings the strongest recent form profile on the card. Over the past 90 days he’s had five runs for two wins and has finished in the money every time, average finish 2.2. That’s the sort of consistency you can hang a win bet on in a BM68.
The danger is Tuskegee from barrier 1. He’s had one look at Devonport and ran second, and that inside gate in a 1476m can let Chloe Wells control the entire middle section of the race. If Tuskegee gets to dictate, Simply Deep may have to do the chasing work, and that’s the only scenario where I can see him being turned over.
Stardarmus adds another angle as the last start winner, but he’s had four goes here for one win and one other placing. Respect, don’t fear. Alpine Blast is honest without being deadly, and Quicken Up looks like he needs everything to go right.
Staking: Strong win bet Simply Deep (NAP). If you’re building a multi, he’s the banker. Consider a small saver exacta Tuskegee over Simply Deep if Tuskegee drifts and you want cover.
Where the money goes
This meeting sets up with one horse I’m happy to build around and a couple of races where you keep your ego small. Simply Deep is the anchor: he’s a Devonport horse with six runs here for three wins and he never misses the frame at the track, plus his last 90 days reads like a professional turning up and doing the job (five starts, two wins, and always in the money).
The value angle, if the market lets you, is Party Day in the C1. He’s already won at this course and he maps like a horse who won’t get lost when the sprint turns tactical. The each-way play is Brutal Empire</strong}: two recent runs for two placings suggests the win is close, even if the wide draw forces him to be ridden with intent.
Course angle worth keeping: Barry Campbell is the stable you keep respecting at Devonport. He wins a bit more than a third of his runners here and places well over half. When his horses turn up fit and find the right gate, don’t try to be clever.
Next time you see a Campbell runner with a low draw on this surface, treat it like a starting point rather than an afterthought.
