Race 6 No. 5 APULIA- ($3.10)

APULIA should be hard to beat in the Victoria Derby Preview. The Hayes-trained galloper has had the two runs this time in for a dominant maiden win at Cranbourne when resuming over the 1500m before jumping straight to Saturday grade and finishing runner-up behind Fistoffury over the 1500m at Moonee Valley. He settled back in the small field that day before producing the fastest last 200m. The son of Fiorente meets the winner 4.5kg better at the weights and was an improver at Flemington at his initial preparation when third up, running on strongly to fill the exacta behind Veight in the Group 2 Sires Produce (1400m). Mark Zahra rides and the pair draw barrier 3.

Race 1 No 9 FOREIGN RAIDER- ($5)

FOREIGN RAIDER can go close in the opener at Flemington. The four-year-old struggled in early runs this preparation then enjoyed a confidence booster after a six-week let-up, smashing them on the Synthetic at Pakenham. The John Sadler-trained galloper has since run well at Sandown, running on well to fill the exacta behind The Marg Factor. The daughter of Tarzino gets out to the 1800m now and will be ridden by Jamie Kah, who strikes at 27% for the stable, providing a 33% profit on turnover for punters.

Race 3 No. 5 WOLFY- ($4.25)

Some promising types feature in Race 3 and it is WOLFY that can make it back to back wins after claiming his Maiden at Sale over the 1400m on September 10. The Nick Ryan-trained galloper settled back in the field in a slowly run race that day before coming out wide and picking off his rivals to score from Basilinna, who has since won easily at Cranbourne. The son of Wolfy loved the step up to the distance that day and can measure up in this race.
