Race 7 No. 13 FIRST IMMORTAL- ($2.75)

Best Bet comes up in the Geelong Cup and it is FIRST IMMORTAL that is the one to beat. The highly promising stayer from the Mark & Levi Kavanagh camp has done little wrong in his career and was far two good for them with the 63kg in a BenchMark 78 two starts ago before missing out behind Future History in the Group 3 Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington. The four-year-old was three deep without cover throughout but kept coming. He should be at his peak now after three runs back and with better luck this time from the wide barrier he should be hard to beat.

Race 9 No. 6 VON HAUKE- ($3.80)

VON HAUKE can end the day a winner. The four-year-old has had two runs this prep for a solid win at Sandown when doing a few things wrong over the 1300m first up before heading to Flemington and running 5th behind Tamerlane in the Paris Lane Stakes (1400m on October 7. In that race, the Cliff Brown-trained galloper settled back and produced the fastest last 200m. This is easier and the step to the 1500m is ideal.

Race 5 No. 1 WAVERLEY- ($7)

WAVERLEY is not without a chance in the Geelong Classic for the three-year-olds. The Victoria Derby lead up does not look overly strong and the John Sergeant-trained galloper was competitive two starts ago when 4th behind the likes of Gold Bullion and Sunsets over the 1800m at Flemington before heading to Sydney and running 10th at Group 3 level in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m), beaten five lengths. This looks easier and he did make some late ground last time. Step up to the 2200m should suit the son of No Nay Never and he is right in this.
