Hobart Race Preview & Best Bets – 11/08/2024
The 2024-2025 racing season in Hobart is ready to kick off. We’ve got an exciting day of turf racing this Sunday on a Soft 5 track. The weather’s fine, with a couple of broken clouds expected, so the conditions should make for a fair playing field for all the thoroughbred contenders.
Best Bet: Press For Boom
Race 3
Our best bet this weekend is a horse with an unbeaten record. Introducing Press For Boom, a four-year-old mare trained by John Blacker and ridden by Craig Newitt. She’s a serious player in this 1400m contest, thanks to her affinity for the softer track types we’re likely to see in Hobart. In her most recent victory on July 28th, she outperformed a competitive field to secure a first-place win in a $30,000 3yo Open Handicap. With a rock-solid record of wins and a return on investment of 170%, Press For Boom is well-positioned to continue her streak of glory.
Second Best Bet: Sky Eagle
Race 1
The three-year-old filly Sky Eagle has been in fine form this campaign, taking home places in two starts. Also trained by John Blacker, she secured second place on a similar Soft 5 track at Hobart, so we’re confident in her readiness for this 1200m contest. Sired by Alpine Eagle, Sky Eagle has shown that she can handle the conditions and compete with the very best of them. Watch this space.
Best Value: Steel Mist
Race 5
Seven-year-old gelding Steel Mist offers fair value. He has the experience, training, and proven track record to surprise in Race 5. His last big win came more than one year ago in June 2023, over 1400m, but don’t let that put you off. Steel Mist still has four career wins and solid performances on soft tracks behind him, so there’s a chance yet. Plus, with decent recent form, he’s a more-than-worthy contender to consider.
