Rosehill Gardens Preview & Best Bets – 17/08/2024
This weekend, Rosehill Gardens will welcome some of Sydney’s best and finest horses, trainers, and jockeys. Set beneath overcast skies and with a Soft 5 track, Saturday’s racing lineup is expected to deliver non-stop action. Punters, here’s what you need to know.
Best Bet: Gatsby’s
Race 6 1100m – LR Sydney Markets Rosebud
If recent trials are anything at all to go by, Gatsby’s is well-positioned to take out a victory this weekend. Sharp and full of potential, this three-year-old colt has proven his talent with a decisive win at Canterbury earlier this year. Sired by Snitzel and out of the dam Miss Charming, Gatsby’s is a well-bred competitor with the pedigree and training to dominate this race and kick-start the Saturday on a winning note. He ticks all the boxes, and we bet a place is on the cards.
Second Best Bet: Kazou
Race 7 1200m – Toyota Material Handling (Bm88)
Five years old and an experienced campaigner, Kazou has demonstrated to us time and time again she has what it takes to perform at the highest level. This mare, trained by Chris Waller just like Gatsby’s, brings five career wins, including a first-place triumph right here at Rosehill Gardens earlier this year. She’s tenacious and won’t crumble under pressure, so there’s a good chance of her placing—if not winning—in race 3. Kazou’s consistency and tactical speed make her a standout in this field.
Best Value: Tom Kitten
Race 8 1400m – Precise Air Hcp
There’s the good, then the great, and then the elite. Tom Kitten is the latter class of horse, with a tidy sum of almost $1.8 million in career earnings. With status as a Group One winner, this four-year-old gelding let the results do the talking at the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick. Despite his shorter odds, Tom Kitten’s proven ability to perform when it matters makes him a value pick. We already know he’s a formidable competitor, so watch this space for a performance that belies his odds.
