BEST BET 🏆
Race 5 No. 6 UNO ARTIE ($1.70)
Pure commonsense dictates that we put UNO ARTIE on top as our Best Bet Selection for Mackay Racecourse on Tuesday. The horse has only joined the Jamie McConachy stable this prep and has struck with immediate success in winning three out of four of his starts for the new boss. His first-up win over this track and trip saw Uno Artie come away to win his maiden comfortably with a starting price of $1.16. The only time Uno Artie has started wider than $1.50 this prep is when he got knocked off two starts ago at even money. Returned to the winner’s stall last start after winning a CL2 over 1100m here with an SP of $1.45. Uno Artie may be stepping up to a CL3 now and yet it is hard to see the punters coming for something else unless they know something from behind closed doors that we do not. Even at time of writing the price of Uno Artie is continually being trimmed in.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4 No. 4 FAY FAYE ($4.80)
Rockhampton trainer Kerrod Smyth will be hopeful of some improvement from his mare FAY FAYE. She rolled forward from a similar wide gate while racing over 1050 metres at home on debut. Faye Faye continued to box on strongly to go down by less than a length on the line and should take some natural fitness from the run. Top claimer Brooke Johnson gets her in with a light weight and she’ll encourage Fay Faye to be positive again from their outside draw.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 9 WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN ($5.60)
The claim of McKenzie Apel has helped to sell us into backing WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN on an each-way basis in the last at Mackay Racecourse on Tuesday. Rockhampton trainer Dale Whyte has rung in the clever use of the claim for Apel after Whoshotthemagician ran on from a long way back to finish second last start. That was in this class and over this track and distance with Whoshotthemagician now finding a race that should have a bit of early pressure involved. Aspen Lad flies around her first-up; however, he has to lump a full 63kgs while fresh and will most likely be taken on in front. This sets-up well for Apel to send Whoshotthemagician home over the top under the light weight.
