Mildura Racing Tips 6 Oct 2026 — can The Cable Guy go on with it?
Opening
There’s one name that jumps off the Mildura page today: The Cable Guy. He’s not just in form, he’s already done it here, and that matters at a track where plenty of these only have “one look” course history at best. Mildura can punish horses that want everything their own way, but it can also reward the ones that control a race from a soft gate and don’t spend petrol early.
We’ve got six races on the turf, a couple of big, messy maidens early, then the card firms into three Benchmark 62s that give us something to hang our hat on. Below are my Mildura racing tips for Tuesday 6 October, written like you’re about to duck out for a late lunch and want the right horses onside, not a form database readout.
Mildura — the setup
Course form is thin across a lot of these fields, so I’m treating most of the “one run here” profiles as a reference point, not gospel. The more usable edge today sits with the jockeys and trainers who repeatedly get horses to run well at this track.

Race-by-race
Race 1: Melb Cup Packages Now On Sale Mdn Plate — 13:30, 1531m
Clux Star is the one I want on top because he brings the right mix for this sort of Mildura maiden: solid current form, a low draw (1), and a racing pattern that should keep him out of traffic. That last-start win reads well for a race like this where a few have had chances without putting it together.
The obvious pushback is the up-and-comer Shogun Chikara, who has only had the one start and ran second. That’s a proper profile for a maiden second-up, but from gate 11 he may have to spend early or concede ground at the wrong time. Either way, he’s the danger because improvement is almost guaranteed.
For something at odds, Back Up Barbie keeps putting herself there (2-344) and gets a workable draw (7). If the top two overthink it mid-race, she’s the one that can pinch a placing again.
Staking: Win bet Clux Star. Quinella saver with Shogun Chikara if you want cover.
Race 2: Mildura Gateway Mdn Plate — 14:00, 1312m
Here’s the question that decides the race: does Stockman’s Choice simply have these covered on current winning momentum, or do we treat that “44-1” line as a jump that the market will overpay? I’m siding with him anyway. He’s drawn ideally in gate 1, and the Bain and Taylor yard is one of the few on the program with enough Mildura volume to respect: six runners here for two wins. Not a monster sample, but it’s more than vibes.
Little Gangster is the runner I don’t want to lose to. He’s lightly raced with a “03” profile that often spikes third-up, and he’s trained by Shawn Mathrick who has at least put a winner on the Mildura board from limited runners. The draw (12) is the obvious headache, so you’re betting on timing and luck.
Staking: Win bet Stockman’s Choice. If you’re playing each-way or exotics, include Little Gangster as the late closer that can run over them if they go too hard early.
Race 3: Mildura Motor Holdings (Bm62) — 14:30, 1094m
The market will make its own mind up, but the price I want to take is the one about Marilyn’s Edge. She’s drawn the pole (1) in a sharp 1094m, and that can be the whole race at Mildura if the rider holds a spot and doesn’t hand up too easily. Her form is a bit of a rollercoaster (147751), but the key is she’s capable of landing a blow when the race shape suits.
Winning Aura is the danger because he arrives with a “5-5101” profile and that last-start win tends to hold confidence through the grades. The concern is he’s a seven-year-old giving you less upside than some, and if he’s asked to make a long run from midfield, the gate (6) becomes more relevant.
I’m also keeping an eye on Inhabit with the light weight (121.2) and 3yo upside, but the recent form “13-903” says you’re buying a rebound rather than a certainty.
Staking: Small win bet Marilyn’s Edge. Keep stakes modest, this race can turn into a leaders’ raffle.
Race 4: Mildura & District Real Estate Mdn Plate — 15:00, 1094m
This is the kind of maiden where I’d rather be with a horse that has shown it can put itself into the race consistently, and that points straight to Cracked It. The form reads “5236”, which is a lot more trustworthy than the string of zeros and blowouts scattered through this field. Gate 2 gives Campbell Rawiller options, and if he can hold a spot one off the fence, the horse should get every look.
The one that can spoil it is Machrimore. He’s got the “32-09” profile that screams “something went wrong or the prep went sideways”, but he’s drawn to land closer than usual (10 isn’t perfect, but it’s not the car park in this race either). If he returns to the level of those earlier placings, he’s right in it.
Wide-gate watch: Moon God debuts for Ciaron Maher from barrier 13 with Teagan Voorham up. That’s the sort of combo that can start shorter than the evidence says it should. I’d rather see it once, unless the money is outrageous.
Staking: Win bet Cracked It. Saver quinella with Machrimore. If Moon God is well-backed late, include in trifectas rather than taking skinny win odds.
Race 5: The Jade Benham MP (Bm62) — 15:30, 1531m
The Cable Guy is the meeting anchor. He comes here off “2411”, which is the profile of a horse that has found his spot and is now learning to win. He’s also won on his only start at Mildura. That’s not a trend, but it’s a big tick when plenty of these don’t own a positive course note at all. From barrier 5, W Gordon can keep it simple: land in the first four, build from the 600m, and make them chase.
The danger is Blue Typhoon, mainly because he’s honest and he’s already placed at Mildura on his only visit. Neil Farley rides this track well too. He doesn’t need to win often to be a nuisance in this grade, he just needs the race run to suit his sustained finish.
The others either look out of form (Blakmax, Solar Mist) or need things to go perfectly (Drunken Sailor), and I don’t want to pay for “perfect” in a Benchmark 62.
Staking: Confident win bet The Cable Guy. He’s the banker for multis.

Race 6: Ausloans Mildura (Bm62) — 16:00, 2078m
Staying races at Mildura often come down to who gets into rhythm, and I like Miss Trombari as the horse most likely to get that run. She’s had three goes here and has a win and a place among them, which is more than most of this field can offer in course evidence. Barrier 5 is a sweet spot for a 2078m start: close enough to hold a midfield trail, not stuck on the paint if the tempo slackens.
Verona Rupes has the obvious “he can win” look and he’s also won on his only start at this track. The worry is the profile “790178” reads like a horse that can throw in a flat one, and from gate 8 he might have to be ridden a touch colder than ideal.
If you want a rougher that makes sense on connections and map, Flight Deck is drawn 2 and gets in light. He’s not winning often lately, but he’s been around long enough to run a placing when the leaders overcook it.
Staking: Each-way Miss Trombari. Saver win on Verona Rupes if the market drifts and gives you a price worth taking.
The plays
I’m building the day around The Cable Guy (Race 5, 15:30). Two wins in his last two, gate 5, and he’s already proven he can handle Mildura with a win on his only appearance here. That’s the closest thing to a “set and forget” on this program.
For value, Marilyn’s Edge (Race 3, 14:30) appeals because the inside draw can turn a choppy form line into a winning one when the trip is only 1094m. If she holds the front half without doing work, she’ll give you a sight.
The safest multi leg is again The Cable Guy. If you want a second leg, make it Stockman’s Choice (Race 2, 14:00) from barrier 1 with the Bain and Taylor stable that actually has a worthwhile sample at this course.
The best each-way angle is Miss Trombari (Race 6, 16:00). She’s been to Mildura three times and hasn’t embarrassed herself, and that’s a stronger foundation than guessing which “one run, no stats” runner will suddenly stay 2078m.
Keep an eye on how riders use the inside gates in the early sprints today. If leaders keep kicking, Mildura stays a barrier track for the next meeting too.
