Morphettville Racing Tips 3 Nov 2026: Sandastan Again?

Overview

Sandastan has won three of his last four starts and placed in the other, and on Tuesday he goes to 2525m at Morphettville as the topweight in a BM56. That is the question at the centre of these Morphettville racing tips: does a horse in that sort of rhythm keep going when the handicapper finally catches up with him?

Morphettville runs ten races on a Good track while the country watches Flemington, starting with a maiden at 11:10AM and finishing at 5:40PM. It is a working card, three maidens, a run of mid-grade handicaps and the John Letts Cup at 3:32PM, but there are clear opinions to be had. Street Legal has hit the frame in all four Morphettville starts and looks the one to beat in the opener, Taupo Tiger has placed in every run this campaign and closes the day as our banker, and N Callow brings the best strike rate of any regular rider here. Only the first race had bookmaker prices up when this was written, so most of the reads below lean on form and course records.

Reading the Morphettville card

Plenty of today’s runners know the track. Sixteen horses still in today’s fields have had at least five Morphettville starts, although very few have turned that into wins.

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Talisay 8 1 4 12.5% 50.0%
Bamyan Buddha 7 1 3 14.3% 42.9%
Sir Kingsford 5 1 2 20.0% 40.0%
Wind Rush 8 0 3 0.0% 37.5%
Freedom Flame 8 0 3 0.0% 37.5%
Capulet 8 0 2 0.0% 25.0%

Street Legal sits outside that table only because the count is four runs here, not five. All four were placings.

The riding numbers are where Morphettville gets interesting. J Holder has had more rides here than anyone on the card, but N Callow is the standout on rate.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
N Callow 59 16 36 27.1% 61.0%
MS C Jones 39 4 16 10.3% 41.0%
Jacob Opperman 82 12 33 14.6% 40.2%
Harry Grace 127 17 50 13.4% 39.4%
J Holder 195 28 74 14.4% 37.9%
Jake Toeroek 119 17 44 14.3% 37.0%
Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Phillip & Tommy Stokes 72 12 36 16.7% 50.0%
Ryan Hannemann 12 5 6 41.7% 50.0%
R & C Jolly 201 26 78 12.9% 38.8%
A J Gluyas 137 17 53 12.4% 38.7%
David Jolly & Justin Potter 34 6 13 17.6% 38.2%
Jon O’Connor 49 7 17 14.3% 34.7%

Callow has six rides today, from Chix Diggus in the first to Royal Fox in Race 9, and Royal Fox is the one that suits him best. The Stokes stable has one runner, and it is the horse we finish the day with.

Morphettville race by race

Race 1: Canadian Club Mdn Plate, 11:10AM, 1050m

Street Legal has been to Morphettville four times and finished in the first three on every occasion. The form line reads 2-2233, so there has always been one better, but in a field of eight maidens over the shorter trip that consistency is worth a lot. Connor Murtagh rides for Sarah Rutten from barrier 4, which gives him the choice of sitting on the speed or just off it.

The danger is Chix Diggus, who has had only two starts, gets N Callow and is the narrow favourite at $2.05 with Bet Right. The upside is unknown, and that is the risk with any lightly raced maiden. Street Legal is $2.15 with Unibet. Win bet on Street Legal, with Scooped ($6.50, Bet Right) the only other one we would include in a quinella.

Race 2: Sportsbet Same Race Multi Mdn Plate, 11:47AM, 1050m

Can a three-start maiden from the Jolly yard finally get it done? Arizona Dreamer has form of 2-4-2, and R & C Jolly have more Morphettville runners than any stable on the card, with 26 winners and 78 placings here. Jake Toeroek rides, and two seconds from three starts is enough to win a race like this.

Madam Moneybags is the one to fear: second at the latest start, the only run in the past three months, and Brooke King takes the ride. Artison has placed twice from three recent runs but keeps finding one too good. With Quillan scratched, twelve go around. Arizona Dreamer each-way.

Race 3: Sportsbet Fast Form Mdn Plate, 12:25PM, 1600m

Shogun Chikara has had one start for a second, and that is the best piece of form in a weak maiden. The step to 1600m is the query, but barrier 3 makes the trip easier to manage, and Jackson Murphy rides for Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor.

Pretty Morsel is the one who will be there at the finish: four placings from eight runs in the past three months without a win, which is a floor rather than a ceiling. Shogun Chikara to win; Pretty Morsel for the quinella only.

Race 4: Thomas Farms Hcp (C2), 1:02PM, 1600m

With Rousing Refrain and Our Beau scratched, six go around, and the shape of the race favours a horse in form. Brave Fortune is that horse. His last five read 7-5-3-3-1, he won at his latest start, and he has placed in all three of his runs in the past three months. Kayla Crowther rides for Will Clarken and Charlotte Sorby.

Wind Rush knows the track well, with three placings from eight starts here, but has not won at Morphettville and draws the inside. Flying Brant carries topweight and has not placed in four runs this campaign. Brave Fortune is the value play on the card and worth a win bet.

Race 5: San Remo Hcp (56), 1:38PM, 1200m

All Shot has two wins at the start of the form line, but the last three runs have been 4, 2 and 0. Koratora is the more reliable profile: four placings from seven runs in the past three months, without a win, and only 55kg to carry.

Tis No Man and Stylish Sparkle have both won races, but neither has shown enough lately to trust. This is an each-way race rather than a confident one. Koratora each-way; All Shot is the danger if the winning form returns.

Race 6: Rexco People (Bm56), 2:52PM, 2525m

Sandastan has won three of his last four, and all four of those runs were placings. His form line finishes 1-3-1-1, so this is a horse at the top of his game. The catch is the weight: he is topweight at 62kg over 2525m. Connor Murtagh rides for Garret Lynch, a pairing with nine wins and 21 placings from 53 rides together.

In a BM56 over a marathon trip, a horse in this sort of form matters more than a few kilos. Girls Girls Girls is the danger, with three placings from four runs this campaign, including a win. Octahedron has four placings from five recent runs and rounds out the trifecta. Eaglelou and Detoron are scratched. Sandastan is the NAP: win bet.

Race 7: Sportsbet John Letts Cup, 3:32PM, 1800m

The feature at Morphettville, and the race with the most course form on the card. Talisay has had eight starts at Morphettville, with a win and four placings, and she brings form of 2-5-1-2-2 into this. She has placed in four of five runs this campaign, including a win. The weights help too: she carries just 54kg from barrier 8, and Rochelle Milnes has had more rides at this track than all but one of today’s jockeys.

Bamyan Buddha is the clear danger. He won his latest start after two thirds, has a win and three placings from seven Morphettville runs, and Brooke King rides from barrier 3, the better draw of the two. He will be closer to the lead, and if they crawl he could kick away. Sir Kingsford also has a Morphettville win, from five starts here, and Florey has won one of her three runs on the track.

The race lost three runners when Time Quest, Placo and Shady Thinker were scratched, and two of those had Morphettville wins, so the field is weaker than it looked at acceptances. Back Talisay to win, and box her with Bamyan Buddha in the exacta. Florey is the each-way roughie.

Race 8: Peter Elberg Funerals (Bm56), 4:17PM, 1050m

Bonfire Girl has won her last two and has two wins from four runs in the past three months. She goes back to 1050m with S H Sit aboard for Travis Doudle from barrier 2, which should put her on the speed. The question is the extra weight after two wins, but in a BM56 sprint she still looks the one to beat.

Mercury Eight also won at her latest start, her only run in three months, and Old Time Rock has placed in three of four recent outings. Both can go close. Bonfire Girl to win, with Mercury Eight the saver.

Race 9: Aceit Transport Solutions Hcp (56), 4:57PM, 1600m

N Callow gets on Royal Fox, and that is the strongest booking on the card. Callow wins more than a quarter of his rides here and places in 61% of them. Royal Fox has won one of two Morphettville starts, has placed in two of five runs this campaign, and jumps from barrier 2 for Jessica Tzaferis.

Hell’s On Fire is the danger. She gets in at 55kg and has a past win in her form line, although she has not placed in four runs this campaign. Cork Harbour, with 13 Morphettville starts, is scratched. Royal Fox to win.

Race 10: Kirin Ichiban (Rs0ly), 5:40PM, 1800m

Taupo Tiger has placed in all five runs in the past three months, winning one, and he comes into this off two seconds. J Holder rides for Phillip and Tommy Stokes, who place in half of their runners at Morphettville. From barrier 10 he will need some luck in running, but he keeps finishing in the first three.

Yorokobi has five placings from six runs this campaign without a win, which makes him a natural quinella partner and a frustrating win bet. Big Rita June is the one coming from further back. Taupo Tiger to win and the leg to build the late quaddie around.

Where the money goes

NAP: Sandastan (Race 6, 2:52PM). Three wins from his last four and placed in all four. The weight is the only argument against him, and we think his form is stronger than the handicap.

Value: Brave Fortune (Race 4, 1:02PM). He has improved through his last five runs, won at his latest start, and gets a six-horse field. He was unpriced when this was written, so take a price when the market opens.

Banker: Taupo Tiger (Race 10, 5:40PM). Five runs this campaign, five placings. That is the sort of horse a multi needs at the end.

Each-way: Koratora (Race 5, 1:38PM). Four placings from seven recent runs and a light weight in an open sprint.

Course angle: N Callow. Sixteen wins and 36 placings from 59 Morphettville rides. When he is booked here, take notice, and Royal Fox in Race 9 is today’s example.

If Sandastan wins with 62kg over 2525m, he is a horse to watch closely in the summer staying races here.
