Overview
Show The Way has been to Northam twice and won both times, and on Thursday he closes the card in the Attvest Hcp (C5) chasing a third straight win at the track. Laqdar Ramoly keeps the ride for N D Parnham, a stable that has won with nine of its 39 runners here, and that partnership has three wins from 12 rides together at Northam. It is the cleanest angle on a seven-race program that otherwise leans heavily on maidens.
These Northam racing tips cover all seven races on a Good to Soft track, from the 2200m maiden at 1:47PM through to the C5 handicap at 5:37PM. Four of the seven are maidens, so a lot of lightly raced horses and thin course form. Where the course numbers say something, we use them. Where they don’t, we lean on form trajectory, the stables in form and the riders who know the place. Markets had not opened with the site’s bookmakers when this was written, so there are no prices quoted below.
Reading the Northam card
Only a handful of today’s runners have been here more than twice. Ruthless Bloom has the most Northam experience with five visits but is a non-runner, so the table below covers the four remaining horses with three course starts. Costa Del Darlo is the only one of them with a win here.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Costa Del Darlo | 3 | 1 | 2 | 33.3 | 66.7 |
| Saisoku | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0.0 | 33.3 |
| Yalda Night | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0.0 | 33.3 |
| Profound Benefit | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0.0 | 33.3 |
The riding numbers carry more weight. W Pike has six rides on the card and the best record of anyone booked: ten wins from 39 rides at Northam and in the first three well over half the time.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| W Pike | 39 | 10 | 23 | 25.6 | 59.0 |
| Lucy Fiore | 39 | 6 | 19 | 15.4 | 48.7 |
| Chris Parnham | 42 | 9 | 20 | 21.4 | 47.6 |
| C Johnston-Porter | 47 | 3 | 20 | 6.4 | 42.6 |
| Jarrad Noske | 30 | 4 | 12 | 13.3 | 40.0 |
| Laqdar Ramoly | 44 | 6 | 16 | 13.6 | 36.4 |
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C & M Gangemi | 7 | 1 | 5 | 14.3 | 71.4 |
| Josh Brown | 12 | 1 | 8 | 8.3 | 66.7 |
| J P Taylor | 25 | 6 | 14 | 24.0 | 56.0 |
| D R Harrison | 15 | 2 | 8 | 13.3 | 53.3 |
| N D Parnham | 39 | 9 | 17 | 23.1 | 43.6 |
| Simon Miller | 26 | 3 | 11 | 11.5 | 42.3 |
Ryan Hill sends four runners, the biggest team on the card, but his strike rate here is modest: three wins from 56 starters. Simon Miller also has four, and two of them look genuinely competitive.

Northam race-by-race tips
Race 1: 360 Farm And Regional Mdn, 1:47PM, 2200m
Saisoku keeps finishing in the money and keeps finding one too good. The form reads 2-2-6-2-2-3, and in the last 90 days he has placed in five of seven starts without winning. That is frustrating if you backed him each time, but in a seven-horse maiden over 2200m that kind of consistency counts for plenty, and he has been to Northam three times already with a placing to show for it.
W Pike takes the ride for S V Vahala, and the pair have only combined twice, but those two rides produced a win and a second. From barrier 2 he can sit handy and let the others make the running at a trip where several of these are unproven.
Rock The Mic is the danger. He was second two runs ago and has placed twice in five starts in the last 90 days, and Joshua Krispyn has had a winner from four runners at the track. Back Saisoku to win, with Rock The Mic as the saver in a quinella.
Race 2: Atc MB Hcp (C1), 2:22PM, 1400m
Who carries the weight better, the horse with the 2kg advantage or the one with the better recent run? Flying In The Wind has only had two starts in the last 90 days, but one of them was a win, and the filly drops to 56kg here under W Pike for A G Durrant. Pike and Durrant have 47 rides together for eight wins and more than half of them placed, and she draws barrier 2.
Mr Mellon is the obvious threat. He won one of his three starts in the last 90 days and placed in another, and P Harvey has been in the first three on both of his rides at Northam, including a win. He carries 58kg from barrier 3. Hamadryad is a non-runner, which takes some speed out of the race.
The Lucky Chip gets in with 51kg and placed third on his only Northam start, so he is the each-way roughie if you want one. Win bet on Flying In The Wind, small saver on Mr Mellon.
Race 3: Uua Mdn, 3:04PM, 1000m
Eleven runners, five of them unraced, over 1000m. This is a race to be careful with. D R Harrison has two in it and both have had a look at the track: Incredible Mr Fox ran third on his only Northam start, and Luminous Lil was fourth on hers. Harrison places with more than half of his Northam runners, so the stable knows what it needs here.
Incredible Mr Fox gets the nod. His three runs read 8-7-3, an improving line, and P Harvey sticks with him from barrier 5 at 57kg. Luminous Lil gets 2kg less and has form of 3-4, but she starts from barrier 9 with S McGruddy aboard and will need luck from out there.
Off The Richter is the unknown worth respecting. He ran fifth on debut and Mitchell Pateman has won with six of 27 runners at Northam. Small win bet on Incredible Mr Fox, otherwise treat it as a watch race.
Race 4: Nti Mdn, 3:45PM, 1100m
The market problem here is that Gets The Girls has the most placings and Don’t Declare has W Pike, but Snow Monkey has the best recent shape and the lightest weight. Her form reads 2-2-0-2, and the most recent of those seconds came at Northam. She drops to 54kg for Simon Miller with Chris Parnham, who has nine wins from 42 rides at the track.
Parnham and Miller have combined six times at Northam for a win and three placings, so this is a booking they use here. From barrier 4 the filly should find a spot behind the speed and have every chance.
Gets The Girls is the one to beat on consistency. He has not run worse than fifth in six starts and placed third on his only visit here, with Jarrad Noske riding from barrier 2. Don’t Declare is the same stable as the selection and was third last time. Coolish and Fila Mia are non-runners. Back Snow Monkey to win.
Race 5: Vero Mdn, 4:25PM, 1600m
De Lago’s Rock has been to Northam twice and placed both times, and his last three runs all ended in third. That is the profile of a horse who keeps running into one better, and in a 14-horse maiden where most of the field has been well beaten lately, consistency is worth a lot.
W Pike rides for Josh Brown from barrier 1, the best draw in the race. Josh Brown places with two-thirds of his runners here, which is a strong number for a small stable, and Pike has won four of 11 rides for him across all tracks. He should be able to save ground from the inside and pick his moment.
Frosted Warrior is the danger. He has placed twice in three runs in the last 90 days and has Chris Parnham aboard for S V Vahala, though barrier 9 makes it harder. Ruthless Bloom, the most experienced Northam horse on the card, is a non-runner. De Lago’s Rock each-way is the play: he has the place credentials and the win is within reach.
Race 6: Country Wide Insurance Brokers Hcp (C3), 5:01PM, 1600m
Two different profiles, both live. Costa Del Darlo comes off a win and a second in his last two, and he is the one horse on the card with a Northam win in his record: one win and two placings from three runs here. Laqdar Ramoly rides for MS K Kersley and draws barrier 1 at 58kg. Ramoly and Kersley have teamed up 17 times for three wins, and four of those rides came at Northam for a win and two placings.
Moriah is the lightweight threat. The mare won her latest start and carries only 52.5kg with Chanel Cooper from barrier 6, and she has won one of his five runs in the last 90 days. If the speed is on, the weight relief could tell late.
Cheyne Bay was second on his only Northam start but has topweight of 60kg, and Vancouver Storm was second last time with 51.5kg. It is a competitive race, but Costa Del Darlo has the course record and the inside gate. Win bet, with Moriah as the saver.
Race 7: Attvest Hcp (C5), 5:37PM, 1400m
Show The Way is two from two at Northam and has won his last two starts. That is all the evidence you need that he likes the track, and the form shows he has been building up rather than just getting lucky: his line reads 5-9-4-9-1-1. Laqdar Ramoly retains the ride at 57kg for N D Parnham, whose 39 Northam runners have produced nine winners. The Ramoly and Parnham combination has three wins from 12 rides here.
The worry is barrier 9 in a field of 12 over 1400m, which means Ramoly will either need to push forward early or drop back and come around them. Neither is a disaster at this trip, and a horse in form usually finds a way.
Buster Biff is the danger. He won two starts ago and placed in the run before that, P Harvey rides for D R Harrison, and he jumps from barrier 2. Random Rewards has a win in the last 90 days and draws the rail. Spangledstar has placed in three of seven recent starts with 52.5kg. Back Show The Way to win and use him as the anchor in the last-leg multis.

Where the money goes
NAP: Show The Way (Race 7, 5:37PM). Two wins from two at the track and two wins from his last two starts. A gelding who keeps turning up at his favourite track in form is the safest kind of bet on a maiden-heavy card.
Value: Costa Del Darlo (Race 6, 5:01PM). The only runner on the card with a Northam win, coming off a first and second, and drawn barrier 1. No price was up when this was written, but on course form alone he deserves more respect than a seven-year-old in a C3 usually gets.
Banker: Saisoku (Race 1, 1:47PM). Placed in five of seven starts over the last 90 days. For multis, take the place.
Each-way: De Lago’s Rock (Race 5, 4:25PM). Placed in both Northam starts and third in each of his last three, from the inside gate in a 14-horse maiden.
Course angle: W Pike. Ten wins from 39 Northam rides and placed with well over half of them. He has six rides today, three of them in our selections.
If N D Parnham keeps placing his horses in races like this at Northam, his runners will be worth following every time the stable makes the trip.
