Race 4 No. 5 MADAM MAYHEM- ($4.50)

Going with the 20-start Maiden, MADAM MAYHEM, in Race 4. The Matthew Ellerton-trained galloper has finished runner-up at her past three over the 2200m on the Synthetic, narrowly missing out in her last two of those. She was caught deep and just missed behind Mr Saxabeat on August 28. Two runs since then, including a solid 4th on the Turf at Ballarat on September 22. Those runs should keep her up to the mark to finally break through.

Race 3 No. 8 HIGHLAND BEAUTY- ($41)

HIGHLAND BEAUTY is worth a bit of thought at big odds in Race 3 of the day at Pakenham. The four-year-old hasn’t done much in her five starts but her best performance came at the track and trip two starts ago when 3rd behind Celestial Storm on September 1. She settled back in the field of nine and was stuck in traffic at the 200m mark before working home well to place. At her most recent start, the daughter of Highland Reel could only manage 8th at Sandown. This looks weaker and her previous form on the surface is encouraging. Worth thought at the price.
