Race 7 – The Everest
Outstanding sprinter Ka Ying Rising brought his impressive record up to 14 wins from 16 starts when he prevailed in the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup at Sha Tin over 1200m last month. That was his 13th consecutive triumph, and he achieved it by conceding a lot of weight to his rivals.
Ka Ying Rising is considered the leading star in the world of horse racing. His owner is thought to have paid in the region of $700,000 to secure his horse’s slot in the Everest, but with $20 million in prize money, that could prove to be a smart investment.
The Hong Kong Sprint winner has been drawn in barrier seven for Saturday’s feature, and trainer David Hayes is delighted with that. Rider Zac Purton will have options from the gates with his sprinter, who is often sharp in the early stages of his races.
The field for this year’s race includes Joliestar from Chris Waller’s yard and Jimmysstar, who represents Ciaron Maher. Those are highly rated sprinters; however, Ka Ying Rising looks in a class of his own, and he can produce a memorable performance in the richest race on turf to give Hong Kong a famous success.

Race 5 – The Kosciuszko
Front Page goes into The Kosciuszko looking for a third victory. He prevailed in this contest in 2022 and 2023, and he is a warm favourite to complete his hat-trick in the race that is exclusively open to country-trained horses.
Trainer Matt Dale will saddle three horses in this year’s renewal of The Kosciuszko, but it is his experienced nine-year-old gelding that gives him the best chance of landing the top prize in the $2 million race, with Boston Rocks and So You Pence likely to be battling it out for minor honours.
Front Page has been handed barrier six, and although no horse has won this race from that draw, it should not cause rider Tim Clark any problems in this hat-trick attempt.

Race 4 – Angst Stakes
Perfumist and Idle Flyer are vying for favouritism at the top of the betting for the Angst Stakes, but those two mares could be overshadowed in this Group Three race by Verona Rose, who will appreciate the drop in grade here.
The four-year-old recently ran in the Epsom Handicap, and although she could only finish eighth in the Group One contest, it will have sharpened her up for this race. This is a much easier assignment, and if she produces anything close to her best, she could manage to win.
