BEST BET: JOLIESTAR

Race 7

Joliestar has been successful in three of her last four appearances on the track, including a victory at the highest level when she won the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield as a three-year-old.

Chris Waller’s filly is unbeaten in two outings at this course. She won the 3YO Sprint here back in April, while more recently, she landed a Group Three handicap. It is clearly a track she delivers her best at.

The four-year-old does need to bounce back from a defeat at Rosehill last time out in the Sheraco Stakes, but she has had a break since then, so expect to see her fresh and back to her best here.

SECOND BEST BET: PRIDE OF JENNI

Race 9

Pride Of Jenni ended last season with victory at Randwick in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes. She blew her rivals away by over six lengths in one of the best performances of the season in Australia.

Since that triumph back in April, the seven-year-old mare has had a mixed bag of results. She had to settle for second place in the Makybe Diva Stakes behind Mr Brightside, but she then reversed the form with her rival in the Feehan Stakes at Flemington last time out.

Some excellent mares have won this race in recent years, including Winx and Verry Elleegant. Pride Of Jenni can be the latest to add her name to this roll of honour for trainer Ciaron Maher.

Best Value: Port Lockroy

Race 8

Port Lockroy was campaigning over much further than this distance of 1300m last season but a drop in trip might be a smart move from his connections. He featured at this course earlier this month in a handicap over 1200m, finishing third of 15 runners, and only beaten by a small margin.

There is likely to be a lot of early pace in this contest so with Port Lockroy having the stamina for much further, it may be run to suit the four-year-old colt from Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald’s stable.
