BEST BET: SWIFTFALCON
Race 7
Swiftfalcon broke his maiden at Flemington last month, winning a hot handicap contest by just under a length. He then produced a big performance to finish second in the Group Three Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill over 1800m.
Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes’ talented three-year-old is likely to improve again for this step up to 2000m. He finished his race strongly at Rosehill earlier this month, and he is bred to see out this new distance.
The son of Exceedance looks set for a big season and the Spring Champion Stakes can be his first major prize of the campaign. His biggest rival in this race is El Castello, but Swiftfalcon can reverse the form with Anthony Cumming’s colt now he has more experience on his side.
SECOND BEST BET: YELLOW BRICK
Race 9
Yellow Brick has not won since he broke his maiden on just his second career start in a Group Three contest at Sunshine Coast. However, he has produced some big performances, and it won’t be long before he is back in the winners enclosure.
Tony and Maddysen Sears’ versatile runner was just over a length behind the winner at Doomben in the BRC Sprint on his latest appearance. He is now going back up in distance to 1500m, which he is suited to.
The five-year-old gelding will enjoy the ground at Randwick and there is nothing in this field that his connections should be too worried about. He is the one they all must beat.
Best Value: Makarena
Race 8
Makarena showed what she is capable of when winning the Group Two Golden Pendant at Rosehill on her penultimate outing. That was a career-best performance from the four-year-old mare. Although she was unable to follow it up over the same course and distance last time, that run should not put you off backing her here in The Invitational.
With barrier one and Zac Lloyd on board, she looks great value to add another major prize to her account.
