Sandown Tips 27/5/2023
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 9 No. 2 GUNSTOCK- ($2.90)
GUNSTOCK should be hard to beat in the final race of the day at Sandown. The four-year-old was excellent when running on strongly first up at Hillside on May 6 over the 1600m, defeating Keats and should only improve second up and out to the 1800m. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper went a healthy 10 lengths faster than standard last time and was a noted improver on figures second up in the spring when going from a runner-up at Flemington over the 1630m to a three-length win in the Group 3 Coongy Cup (2000m). The son of Tavistock draws barrier 12 for this assignment but can slot into the running line and the race looks like it will set up nicely for him.
NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)
Race 3 No 1 GOOD AND PROPER- ($3.60)
We tipped GOOD AND PROPER at a bit of a price the last time she stepped out and keen to stick on board for this assignment. The Matthew Ellerton-trained mare settled last of 16 runners at Flemington and was forced wide as they cornered before rattling home for 3rd behind Fortunate Kiss. She draws to be a bit more prominent this time around and was a winner at the Lakeside circuit prior to Flemington, while she was runner-up first up at Hillside. The daughter of Shooting To Win went 5.7 lengths faster than standard at her latest, which are the best last start figures of any runner. Laura Lafferty rides and claims the 3kg.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 8 No 3 GREEN FLY- ($6.50)
GREEN FLY can go close in Race 8. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper showed promise back in the spring in what was his first preparation in Australia and resumed at Flemington on May 13, running 6th behind King Magnus over the 1400m. He settled towards the rear in that race before producing the fastest last 200m to go a healthy 8.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. The son of Frankel heads into this second up and steps to the 1600m.
