Toowoomba Racing Tips 24 Oct 2026: Can Azuki Break Through?

Overview

Azuki has been to Toowoomba four times and hit the placings on every visit without once saluting, and tonight it arrives off two straight wins. That is the puzzle at the centre of the card: a horse that clearly handles this track, finally in the kind of form that turns placings into wins.

Seven races make up this Saturday night meeting on a Soft-rated track, from a 1200m Benchmark 60 at 5:30PM to a 1900m staying test that closes the night at 8:58PM. Our Toowoomba racing tips run through every race below, with a clear pick and a staking line for each. Expect a heavy dose of Pat Webster, whose strike rate here deserves its own paragraph, plus a pair of 870m sprints where early speed decides almost everything. The quaddie runs from Race 4 to Race 7, and the last two legs carry two of our firmest views.

Reading the Toowoomba card

Toowoomba is one of the few tracks where there is enough course form across tonight’s fields to build tables that actually mean something. Several runners have six or more starts here, and the riding and training ranks are deep.

Horses with real course form

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
The Deputy 8 2 6 25.0 75.0
Igotmymindonyou 4 1 3 25.0 75.0
Azuki 4 0 4 0.0 100.0
Sir Goldalot 7 1 4 14.3 57.1
Kingsland 4 0 2 0.0 50.0
Flirting With Fire 7 1 2 14.3 28.6

Jockeys

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
MS G Cartwright 67 14 30 20.9 44.8
Jaden Lloyd 25 5 11 20.0 44.0
G Geran 110 19 48 17.3 43.6
Leslie Tilley 84 14 34 16.7 40.5
Mckenzie Apel 16 4 6 25.0 37.5

Trainers

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Pat W Webster 75 25 53 33.3 70.7
Nick Keal 83 17 40 20.5 48.2
William Kropp 25 4 13 16.0 52.0
Corey & Kylie Geran 216 24 87 11.1 40.3
K R Kemp 138 14 53 10.1 38.4

Webster is the number that jumps off the page. One winner from every three runners over 75 starts is a serious strike rate at any track, and seven in ten of those runners finish in the money. The Geran stable sends the volume (216 runners here) but converts at a far lower rate, so treat their runners on merit rather than on name.

Toowoomba race by race

Race 1: 1 Equine – For The Equine Athlete (Bm60), 5:30PM, 1200m

Lady Willpower is the one, and the reason starts with the stable. Leslie Tilley and Pat Webster have combined 29 times at Toowoomba for eight wins and 16 placings, and this mare has already won one of her two starts here and placed in the other. Her form line of 4-1-5-2-1-3 shows a horse that keeps turning up, with a win and three placings from four runs in the last three months.

The worry is barrier 12 in a field cut to eight by scratchings, which at least means she won’t be caught as wide as the number suggests. Everywhere is the danger. It also won on one of its two Toowoomba visits and has a recent win in the form, and G Geran rides with more Toowoomba winners than anyone else on the card. Kingsland has placed twice from four starts here without winning, which reads more like a placegetter than a winner.

Win bet on Lady Willpower.

Race 2: Focus HR (Bm70), 6:10PM, 1300m

Can a horse that has finished in the first three at all four Toowoomba starts finally win one? Azuki comes here with the best answer it has ever had. The last two runs were wins, the 90-day record is two wins and four placings from four starts, and it has collected more prize money in that window than anything else in the race. That is a horse in the form of its life.

The setup suits too. Azuki jumps from barrier 2 with 54kg, giving away seven kilos to the topweights, and Jake Molloy can take the box seat and wait. Trainer J Dann has only had five runners here but four of them placed.

The Deputy is the obvious threat on track record: two wins and six placings from eight Toowoomba starts make it the most proven course horse tonight. The catch is current form, with no placing from four runs in the last three months, and 61kg to carry on a Soft surface. Mishani Prince has a win in its recent form and gets in light.

Azuki to win, with The Deputy as the saver in exactas.

Race 3: Empire Of Japan Standing At Hopetoun Farm Mdn Plate, 6:44PM, 1300m

This is a weak maiden, and the honest view is a cautious one. Chop Chop Go gets the nod off a form line of 4-4-2-3-4 since a break, with two placings from three recent runs. It isn’t winning, but it keeps running in the first four, and Mckenzie Apel wins a quarter of his Toowoomba rides from a small book of 16.

Onlyyoucanread has placed in one of two starts here and has two seconds in its form line, and G Geran’s booking adds to it. Strike Me Pink has placed twice from four Toowoomba runs.

Small each-way on Chop Chop Go, or treat it as a watch race.

Race 4: K & R Plumbing Supplies Hcp (C4), 7:21PM, 1100m

Perle de Chocolat was scratched from the opener to run here, which suggests connections see the better chance here. Over the last three months it has won once and placed three times from four starts, banking more than anything else in this six-horse field, and it drops to 54kg from barrier 1. The rail draw over 1100m on a Soft track is exactly where you want to be.

American Conquest is the danger with course credentials: three runs at Toowoomba for a win and three placings. Its two recent runs were unplaced, which is why it sits second here, but it will be fitter for them and Nicholas Beck’s runners place close to half the time at this track.

Win bet on Perle de Chocolat. This is the first leg of the quaddie, so include American Conquest there.

Race 5: Sub- Zero Airconditioning Mdn Plate, 7:56PM, 870m

A maiden over 870m leaves no time to recover from a slow start, so this race goes to whoever jumps and holds. Over The Limit has been knocking on the door with a form line of 2-5-3-4-2-2, and two straight seconds suggest it has learned to race. Montanna Savva rides.

Trooper Sam is the danger. MS G Cartwright has the best place rate of any jockey with real volume here, and trainer MS L Baskett has placed six of eight Toowoomba runners. The horse’s form has faded slightly since two seconds, which keeps it behind our pick. Mishpat has placed three times from eight runs in the last three months without winning, so it is one for the exotics only.

Over The Limit to win. In the quaddie, take Over The Limit and Trooper Sam.

Race 6: Kennards Hire (Bm65), 8:27PM, 870m

Igotmymindonyou has the strongest overall case in a sharp field. It has won once and placed three times from four Toowoomba starts, its form line ends with a win, and over the last three months it has two wins and four placings from seven runs. That is consistency at the track and current form together, which is rare on this card.

The market problem is Don’t Touch. It has placed in all three of its recent starts and won last time out, so it will be well backed, but it has never raced at Toowoomba and trainer R T Hay hasn’t had a winner from seven runners here. Kirksville is the sleeper. It won its only Toowoomba start and comes from the Webster and Tilley camp, but there are no recent runs to judge current fitness, which makes it a value play rather than a main bet.

Win bet on Igotmymindonyou, with a small saver on Kirksville.

Race 7: Hannas Toowoomba (Bm58), 8:58PM, 1900m

Headline Legend arrives as the hottest horse on the card: three wins from six runs in the last three months and a form line ending in 1-9-1. MS G Cartwright, who sits on top of tonight’s jockey table on place rate, keeps the ride. It has never run at Toowoomba, which is the one question mark, but a horse winning half its recent starts deserves to be on top in a Benchmark 58.

Sir Goldalot is the horse that knows the track. Seven Toowoomba starts have produced a win and four placings, and its recent run of 3-3-1-3 shows it hasn’t stopped trying. Nick Keal has two in the race (Sir Goldalot and the topweight Abraham), and his stable wins one in five here. Over 1900m on a Soft track, Sir Goldalot‘s toughness could close the gap.

Headline Legend to win, Sir Goldalot each-way.

Where the money goes

NAP: Azuki (Race 2, 6:10PM). Four placings from four Toowoomba starts, two wins on the bounce, a low draw and 54kg. Everything that held it back here before has been addressed.

Value: Kirksville (Race 6, 8:27PM). A Toowoomba winner from the Webster and Tilley camp that the market will likely underrate while Don’t Touch takes the money.

Banker: Igotmymindonyou (Race 6, 8:27PM). Course form and current form line up. Three placings from four starts here and two wins in its last seven make it the steadiest multi leg.

Each-way: Sir Goldalot (Race 7, 8:58PM). Seven Toowoomba starts, four placings, and a run of thirds that suits a place bet over a staying trip.

Course angle: Pat W Webster. One winner from every three Toowoomba runners and seven in ten placed. Back the stable’s runners first and ask questions after.

If Webster keeps placing seven of every ten runners here, Toowoomba punters will be checking his nominations before they check the form.
