Doomben Racing Tips 3 Nov 2026: Tasman Bay Again?

Overview

Tasman Bay has won two of the last three, placed at both Doomben starts, and looks the cleanest bet on a ten-race card that the T J Gollan stable will try to own. Gollan has 15 runners spread across the day, and nine of the ten races have at least one of them. That is the story of the meeting, and it is also the trap: not every one of those runners is there to win.

The track is rated Soft, which matters for a card that runs from 1110m out to 2220m. You get three maidens before lunch, a pair of Class 1 handicaps in the middle of the afternoon, a Class 3 that should be the best race on the card, and a big BM68 to close the quaddie. These Doomben racing tips cover every race, with a firm opinion where the form supports one and an honest pass where it doesn’t. Most of the live market had not formed when this was written, so prices are quoted only where a bookmaker was actually betting.

Reading the Doomben card

Gollan sets the benchmark here, with 52 winners from 300 Doomben runners and 45% of them in the frame. When Ben Thompson rides for the stable, the numbers hold up: the pair have nine wins and 27 placings from 45 rides together at this track. Thompson is also the leading rider in today’s course stats, with 37 wins from 183 rides. Bella Youngberry is the one to watch on the place side, finishing in the first three on half of 62 Doomben rides.

Course form among the horses is thin. A handful have three or more starts here, and only Don’t Doubt Missy has five.

Doomben race by race

Race 1: Sky Racing Mdn Plate, 10:53AM, 1,640m

Spirit Of Torque is the runner with the miles in the legs, and in a seven-runner maiden that counts. The form reads third and fourth at the last two starts with a second before that, and four previous trips to Doomben mean nothing about the track will be new. Cejay Graham rides for Stuart and Bayley Kendrick from the outside gate, which is no drama in a field this size.

Just Say Vale is the danger. Sixth on debut for Gollan, two kilos less than the top weights, and Angela Jones has barrier 1. The market had Just Say Vale a touch shorter than Spirit Of Torque, $2.30 at Unibet against $2.35 at Bet Right. With one run on the board, that is the bigger unknown.

Spirit Of Torque to win. Small, because maidens this early rarely pay to be brave.

Race 2: Ladbrokes Hosted Pots (Bm68), 11:33AM, 1,640m

Can Paciera make it three in a row? Two straight wins, and two from three runs in the past 90 days. Kristie Clark-Peoples has four winners from 15 Doomben runners, a small book but a strong one, and Bella Youngberry is the rider who keeps hitting the frame here. Barrier 3 should hand Paciera the run of the race.

Sorrenti ran third last time and has a win from four runs in the past 90 days for M J Dunn. Jett Newman rides at 56.5kg, and this is the one that can sit closer and make Paciera chase.

Paciera to win, with Sorrenti saved in the exacta.

Race 3: Drinkwise (Bm70), 12:13PM, 2,220m

A pair of Gollan horses, both last-start winners, and the stable jockey picked one of them. Draw Attention has won the last two and has two wins from four runs in the past three months, and Ben Thompson takes the ride from barrier 3. Over 2220m on a Soft track, a horse that is in form and fit beats a horse that is guessing.

Hot Majesty is the stablemate and the obvious danger: another last-start winner, with Bella Youngberry riding from the wider draw in 6. Trusty Bandit has three wins from eight in the past 90 days but was seventh last time.

Draw Attention to win.

Race 4: Happy Retirement Rothfire Mdn Plate, 12:48PM, 1,200m

Malamagic ran second on debut, and that is the best single piece of form in a maiden full of question marks. D Moor rides for Gollan from barrier 5. Plan Of Attack also ran second at the latest start, after a ninth, and Cejay Graham has to work from barrier 14.

Plan Of Attack is the danger with cover early. Hard to have a confident view beyond that. Malamagic, small win only.

Race 5: Intro Recruitment Cup Mdn, 1:35PM, 1,200m

Volcanic Rush and Holy Terror both ran second last time, and the market will sort out which is the better horse. I’ll take Volcanic Rush, second on debut for R L Heathcote. Heathcote has 15 Doomben winners from 112 runners, and Taylor Marshall gets a workable gate in 9.

Holy Terror has had three runs for two placings and Ryan Maloney rides. The draw in 11 is the worry. Volcanic Rush each-way.

Race 6: Moreton Hire Mdn Plate, 2:42PM, 1,350m

Hard Knox has been knocking on the door: third, third and second at the last three starts, plus a placing on the only Doomben run. Bella Youngberry rides at 56.5kg, and barrier 8 is fine in a field of 13. The Kendricks look to have this one ready to break through.

Veomas ran second last start for Gollan with Angela Jones up, and is the one to beat. Xami is a first starter for Chris Waller with A Mallyon, so expect the market to tell you more than the form can.

Hard Knox to win, exacta with Veomas.

Race 7: Canadian Club Hcp (C1), 3:23PM, 1,200m

Fleeting Boom has had two starts and won the second of them, at Doomben. Ben Thompson rides for Gollan from barrier 2. That is the profile of an improving horse in a winnable race, and it makes Fleeting Boom the anchor of the quaddie.

The danger is Trinity State, a winner and then second at the only two starts. Trinity State carries 54kg to Fleeting Boom‘s 58.5kg, and that weight swing could pinch it from a soft lead. Raging Raider was fifth last time but has a win from three runs this preparation.

Fleeting Boom to win. Fleeting Boom is the banker for multis.

Race 8: Century Pools Hcp (C1), 4:07PM, 1,200m

Pinot Pirate has had one start for one win, and Chris and Corey Munce go straight into a Class 1 with Cejay Graham aboard. That makes Pinot Pirate the hardest horse on the card to price, and on paper the best value of the day. The Munces have 17 winners from 101 Doomben runners.

Disparate won last time and placed on the only Doomben start. D Moor rides from barrier 1 for Gollan, and this is the safer, more exposed option. Another Cashie and Meet George have placed often enough to fill the frame.

Pinot Pirate to win, saver on Disparate.

Race 9: Higgins Coatings Plate (C3), 4:46PM, 1,110m

This is the race of the day, and Tasman Bay is the horse to be on. Tasman Bay won last start, has two wins from three runs in the past 90 days, and has a win and a placing from two Doomben starts. Five scratchings have cut the field to nine, which takes away a lot of the traffic risk from barrier 6.

Anthony Allen‘s book with Barry Lockwood and Emma-Jane Vincent is small but sharp: four wins and eight placings from 12 rides together, including a win and a second from two at Doomben. Allen has two wins from eight rides at the track.

Desanto is the danger, a winner at the only run in the past 90 days for Jack Bruce, who wins a fifth of all Doomben starts. La Roja, another Bruce runner with Ben Thompson riding, has finished second in five of the last six and is the place play. Noble Decree has form figures of 3-2-3-2 and will be in the finish too.

Tasman Bay to win, and the NAP of the day.

Race 10: Ladbrokes Turn On Flex Multi (Bm68), 5:25PM, 1,350m

Fifteen runners, a wide spread of barriers and a soft surface: this is the leg that breaks quaddies. Lebanese is the pick. Lebanese won last start, has two wins from four runs in the past 90 days, and has already won at Doomben. Emily Lang rides for Gollan from barrier 8.

Col Burn has two wins from four this preparation and won last start for David Vandyke, but barrier 20 is a big ask even with the scratchings. Don’t Doubt Missy has placed in three of five Doomben starts without winning one, and was third last time. That is the each-way play at a price.

Lebanese to win, Don’t Doubt Missy each-way. Spread in the quaddie here.

Where the money goes

NAP: Tasman Bay (Race 9, 4:46PM). Two wins from the last three, both Doomben starts in the frame, and a rider who knows the stable. Five scratchings have done the rest.

Value: Pinot Pirate (Race 8, 4:07PM). One start, one win, and still more unknown than exposed. If the market goes past $4, take it.

Banker: Fleeting Boom (Race 7, 3:23PM). Unbeaten at Doomben, with the Thompson and Gollan combination aboard.

Each-way: Don’t Doubt Missy (Race 10, 5:25PM). Three placings from five Doomben runs and third last start. This track keeps producing a cheque.

Course angle: Ben Thompson riding for T J Gollan. They place six times in every ten rides together at Doomben, and they team up four times today, including Draw Attention and Fleeting Boom.

If Tasman Bay wins this as well as the form says, the Lockwood and Vincent stable will have a Class 3 sprinter worth following into the summer.
